In a minute, the minute hand traces 6 degrees.
In a minute, the hour hand traces ½ degrees.
The relative difference b/w minute hand and hour hand for a minute is 51/2 degrees.
Q) What is the angle b/w the hands when the time is 3:40.

The minute hand has to trace 40 minutes i.e. 240 degrees.
During this time, the hour hand would have moved ½ x 40 = 20 degrees.
At 3:00, the initial angular difference b/w the hands is 90 degrees.

Therefore, at 3:40, the angle b/w the hands = 240 – 90 – 20 = 130 degrees.
