Last year, our student count went down   We cut 2 teachers   This year, our student count went up   We need the teachers   We have also had a striking increase in our ELL population. (28 more since December)   Need 2 more teachers for this group.   4 Well OK, But How Will It Affect My Taxes? 5 State Factors CLA DECREASED from 1.0460 to 0.99 (5.35%) This means the state thinks your property value went up quite a bit. The State per student allocation went up from $8,210 to $8,544 (4.07%) Our per pupil cost divided by the state figure gives you Spending Adjustment which went DOWN! 3.21% to 1.29 Your taxes vary by the Spending Adjustment. 6             7 Get a Prebate? Your taxes are based on your total household income.   State says 1.80% multiplied by the spending adjustment 1.29   You will pay 2.32% of your total household income on education tax.   Last year you paid 2.4%   This is good.   8 No Prebate? The decrease in CLA means the state thinks your house is worth MORE than last year.   BUT the State set Tax Rate went Down from 87 cents to 85.   CLA Tax Rate Spending Adjustment   Means it’s essentially a wash.   1.019 to 1.018 slight decrease   9 Caveats The decrease in the tax rate   The increase in the student allocation   The unadjusted income percentage of 1.80%   The income threshold for prebate eligibility   All of these things are subject to revision by the legislature.   Please call your legislators if you have an opinion.   10 More If you get a prebate, you tax varies by income as well as the tax rate.   Prebates apply to the EDUCATION TAX   Our per pupil spending is less than the state average.   11 12 Non-Residential         Budget doesn’t affect you. CLA does and the increase will cost you. State rate fell from $1.36 last year to $1.34 this year.
