Why the Increase?
Last year, our student count went down We cut 2 teachers This year, our student count went up We need the teachers We have also had a striking increase in our ELL population. (28 more since December) Need 2 more teachers for this group.
4
Well OK, But How Will It Affect My Taxes?
5
State Factors
CLA DECREASED from 1.0460 to 0.99 (5.35%) This means the state thinks your property value went up quite a bit. The State per student allocation went up from $8,210 to $8,544 (4.07%) Our per pupil cost divided by the state figure gives you Spending Adjustment which went DOWN! 3.21% to 1.29 Your taxes vary by the Spending Adjustment.
6
7
Get a Prebate?
Your taxes are based on your total household income. State says 1.80% multiplied by the spending adjustment 1.29 You will pay 2.32% of your total household income on education tax. Last year you paid 2.4% This is good.
8
No Prebate?
The decrease in CLA means the state thinks your house is worth MORE than last year. BUT the State set Tax Rate went Down from 87 cents to 85. CLA Tax Rate Spending Adjustment
Means it’s essentially a wash. 1.019 to 1.018 slight decrease
9
Caveats
The decrease in the tax rate The increase in the student allocation The unadjusted income percentage of 1.80% The income threshold for prebate eligibility All of these things are subject to revision by the legislature. Please call your legislators if you have an opinion.
10
More
If you get a prebate, you tax varies by income as well as the tax rate. Prebates apply to the EDUCATION TAX Our per pupil spending is less than the state average.
11
12
Non-Residential
Budget doesn’t affect you. CLA does and the increase will cost you. State rate fell from $1.36 last year to $1.34 this year. Rate/CLA = Rate you pay
FY 2009 = 1.30 FY 2010 = 1.35 3.8% increase in your tax rate

We Understand
These are tough times If the tough times continue, we know we will be looking at program cuts. With the 2nd year of no tax increase We don’t believe it has to be now. Give our kids one more year of full programs, please. You have given us much.
