Minnesota and the Five Themes of Geography For this mini project you will be examining your home state through the lens of a geographer. You will need to apply the five themes of geography (and all its parts) to the state of Minnesota To do this you must include information on the following: Location o Absolute location – 2 addresses and 2 latitude and longitude coordinates. o Relative location –2 descriptions of Minnesota’s relative location in the country – then choose 3 other well known places and describe their relative location within the state. Place o Human – 3 Man made landmarks that make your Minnesota unique. o Physical –3 Naturally occurring features that make your Minnesota unique. Movement o 1-2 Examples of EACH the movement of people, goods, and ideas. HEI o Provide 2 examples EACH of how the environment changes people and how people change the environment. Region o Describe at least 3 ways Minnesota can be divided into smaller regions and provide examples. Also describe how Minnesota is part of another region with in the United States. Map a map of the state of Minnesota that includes the following: o St Paul and Minneapolis o St Cloud o Duluth o Lake Superior (TODALSS!!!!) INCLUDE LOTS OF PICTURES AND COLOR!! Presenting the information We will be making a flipper poster to display the information. Fold 2 pieces of printer paper in half (hamburger). Arrange the paper as shown in the diagram below. Use four pieces of tape and tape the paper together. Title the front Minnesota and place your hand drawn map on this page. Each page after will have one of the five themes and at least 1 picture (hand drawn or pasted on). Hand drawn pictures must be in color. Your flipper may contain no more than 50% printed pictures from the internet, magazines, etc .
