Exide Technologies Facilities Awarded ISO Renewal For Environmental Management
Systems

PRINCETON, N.J., June 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Exide Technologies (OTC Bulletin Board: EXDTQ), the global leader in
stored electrical energy solutions, has announced that the International Organization for Standardization has awarded ISO
14001 renewal to its facilities located in Bad Lauterberg, Budingen and Weiden, Germany. The ISO 14001 renewal verifies that
a location's Environmental Management System (EMS) still conforms to stated requirements and achieves satisfactory
environmental performance.

These Exide Technologies facilities manufacture network power and motive power batteries for a wide range of applications. In
Budingen, Exide builds its Gel dryfit(R) batteries for network power, motive power, transportation and military applications. The
Weiden facility produces Gel dryfit(R) 2-volt cells for network power and motive power applications. The Bad Lauterberg
location produces 2-volt cells for motive power and submarines, as well as bloc batteries for military applications.

"The renewal process is nearly as rigorous as obtaining the original ISO 14001 certification and will aid in growing customer
confidence and satisfaction with our products and services," said Clemens Herzog, Managing Director of Exide Technologies
Bad Lauterberg and Werner Schier, Managing Director of Exide Technologies Budingen and Weiden, Germany.

ISO certifications are categorized into a broad range of business systems. A facility becomes ISO accredited after independent
auditors investigate and document that its environmental processes conform to relevant standards. Once an organization
becomes ISO certified, it must continually work to improve and maintain the system. To obtain ISO 14001 renewal, companies
may opt for periodic surveillance visits to verify that the EMS continues to adhere to all relevant environmental standards and
requirements. Alternatively, they must undergo a complete reassessment of all EMS processes every three years. Surveillance
audits, a sampling of the organization's EMS, must be conducted at east once per calendar year.

The three Exide facilities in Germany achieved ISO 14001 certification in February 2001. The renewals were awarded in April
2002.

"Renewal of ISO 14001 certification underscores our dedication to continuous improvement and world-class environmental
health and safety standards," said Craig H. Muhlhauser, Chairman and CEO of Exide Technologies.
