Statement of the Competency
To understand the overall meaning of simple messages
and to express simple messages in familiar and
predictable contexts in English.
Elements of the Competency Performance Criteria
1. Understand the meaning of a verbal message. 1.1 Recognition of the overall meaning of a message on a
familiar topic in a predictable context when spoken slowly,
with the possibility of repetition.
2. Understand the meaning of a simple text of general 2.1 Recognition of the overall meaning of a text of a few
interest. paragraphs on a familiar topic in a predictable context.
3. Express a simple message verbally. 3.1 Comprehensible communication of a few ideas on a familiar
topic in a predictable context.
3.2 Use of complete sentences, when relevant in the context.
3.3 Use of sufficient vocabulary that is relevant in the context.
3.4 Formulation of simple and comprehensible questions and
answers on a familiar and predictable topic in situations
3.5 Generally comprehensible pronunciation and intonation.
4. Write a simple text. 4.1 Writing of a comprehensible text of about 200 words, made
up of complete sentences that are linked together.
4.2 Use of sufficient vocabulary that is relevant in the context.
4.3 Application of grammar rules in a way that does not impede
comprehension, in particular for the plurals of nouns,
personal pronouns, the negative form, and verbs in the
simple present, simple past and future.
4.4 Acceptable use of the verbs to be and to have.
