                               2009-2010

The North Penn Parents Special Education Council invites speakers to present at our
monthly General Speaker Series Seminar Presentations. Please know that we are very
appreciative of your time, as we seek speakers on a pro bono basis.

Our speaker series is FREE and open to anyone interested in learning more about
special education issues that affect those with learning and/or physical challenges. The
series is an opportunity for attendees to network with others and become better
informed.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at 267-640-
5554. Leave a message, and someone will return your call promptly. You may also
email us at NPSECinfo@yahoo.com .

                    Speaker Application – General Information
THANK YOU for considering to share your time, talent, and expertise with us. We greatly
appreciate your support. The following will familiarize you with the Who, What, Where,
When, and Why of NPSEC.

WHO is North Penn Parents’ Special Education Council? NPSEC (i.e., Parents of
Children with Learning and/or Physical Differences Working Together with the North
Penn School District) is a chapter of the North Penn Coordinating Council, a parent-
driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The mission of the Special Education Council is
to provide educational and networking opportunities to caregivers and professionals of
children with learning and/or physical differences within the North Penn and surrounding
communities. We do not endorse any individual programs, therapies, schools, theories
or practices of any individual person. We are not meant to be a replacement for medical,
educational, therapeutic or legal advice.

WHY do we hold the Speaker Series? - One way NPSEC fulfills the mission is to provide a
monthly General Speaker Seminar on a selected topic pertinent to learners with specially
designed instructional needs. The speaker seminars’ primary goal is to provide relevant
information to families, educational professionals, and vested community members to better
enable them to identify, respect, and meet the learners’ needs.

WHERE does NPSEC meet? Our meetings are usually held at the North Penn School
District Educational Services Center (ESC), 401 East Hancock Street, Lansdale, PA 19446.

WHEN do the meetings take place? Our speaker series usually occur 7:00 - 9:00 pm
on a Wednesday evening during the school year. The evening is structured with a brief
welcome/introduction by one of our board members, followed by a 90-minute
presentation by the speaker, and closing with a 30-minute period for networking among
the speaker and attendees.
WHO is the audience? The meetings are free and open to all stakeholders. Family
members, special education and general education teachers, support personnel, other
professionals working with special needs children, school administrators, and all interested
individuals are encouraged to attend. Our attendees’ skill levels range from new learners to
advanced learners, and we highly encourage speakers to use layman’s terms within their
presentations. When technical terms are used, a definition or brief explanation is appropriate.

WHAT about handouts and visual tech support? Experience has shown that the most
successful presentations have had visual aids and printed handouts to accompany the
presentation. We require a 45-day advance notice for printing and technology requests. We
will do our best to accommodate your request.

HOW does a speaker sign up? Thank you! Great question! Please complete the Speaker
Application Form below, and scan/e-mail to npsecinfo@yahoo.com or mail to: NPSEC, P.O.
Box 492, Montgomeryville, PA 18936.

A Final Note … Lastly, NPSEC strives to provide an awareness table for informative
brochures and pamphlets. Please feel free to bring any information you would like (i.e. lists of
other speaking engagements, resource pamphlets) to add to the table the night of your
presentation. Of course, be sure to help yourself to the refreshments! We look forward to
your presentation, and thank you for your generous support providing your insight, time, and
talents to our NPSEC community members.

Cordially yours,
North Penn Parents’ Special Education Council
