Goals and Objectives
• To encourage parents to participate in civic life and to advocate for children in urban, suburban, and rural communities. • To promote diversity of leadership in communities throughout Connecticut. • To increase awareness of the issues that matter to parents and the important role they can play as advocates and change agents.
Request for Grant Proposals
• Applications will be considered from public and not-for-profit (501C3) organizations that demonstrate cultural competence and the financial and administrative capability to implement the grant. • Grants will be funded based on state appropriations and matching funds from public and private partners available to SERC/CT PIRC. • All grant proposal applications must be received by SERC/CT PIRC no later than 4:30 p.m. on April 30, 2009.
To be considered for funding, applicants must indicate that their training will:
• Increase and sustain the motivation, ability and opportunity for parents to engage in the civic life of their communities and the state. • Increase the visibility and involvement of parents in addressing their concerns regarding children and families through the advocacy skills learned in the training. • Demonstrate diversity among parent participants and the organization’s board that is reflective of their community.
Cont. To be considered…
• Include a strong civics and advocacy skills component. • Include plans for increased and sustained parent engagement in the community. • Demonstrate ability to secure at least 20% of funding. This funding may be in-kind.

Other leadership models…
• Other parent leadership training program models that have been evaluated and demonstrate successful civic outcomes can be proposed by including a description, the rationale, target audience.
• New curriculum models may be proposed by including a description, curriculum outline, recruitment strategies, demographics of target audience, the expected results, and how the success of the parent leadership training program model will be measured.
Grant Period
• Grants will be funded based on state appropriations and matching funds from public and private partners available to SERC/CT PIRC. • The anticipated funding cycle for this Parent Leadership Training Program Grant is September 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010.

Submission Deadline
• All proposals must be received by 4:30 P.M. on April 30, 2009. • The original proposal must bear an original signature of the authorized official on the Cover Page. • An original signature must also be included on the Statement of Assurances. • Fax copies of proposals will not be accepted. Grant Proposal Timeframes
• A timetable has been established for the Parent Trust Fund Grant Application process. However, the dates are subject to change (see grant timeframes).
Grant Writing Technical Assistance
Grant writing technical assistance will be available to applicants intending to apply for the proposal. Please note that this technical assistance is: • Independent from the review and selection process • Taking advantage of this TA does not in any way guarantee or enhances the chance of grant funding • Dawn Homer-Bouthiette will be providing assistance and acting independently from the review and selection committee process.
