Title: Intial use of Dual LITER in 2009: Effects of Lithium Condtioning on moderate elongation ELMy discharge Group: Boundary Physics Submitted By: D. K. Mansfield Affiliation: PPPL Email: Replace_Email Milestone: R(10-3) ITPA: R(10-3) Brief Description: The idea is to run a moderate elongation, ElMy plasma (129012) on lithium-free divertor surfaces and then introduce lithium from LITER slowly over the next 5-10 discharges. This will allow the investigation of how lithium frustates ELMs in a moderate elongation plasma as a functionof shot number. In this regard, this XP compliments XP 827 which investgated how ELMS were suppressed in a lower elongation discharge. This will facilitate a more complete comparison to the theory. Background: See XP 827 Experimental Approach/Plan: The plan is to first establish that 129012 can be reproduced. LITER will then be used a low flux for the next 5-10 discharges. The plasma parameters and ELM behavior will be monitored. Machine Time Required: 1/2 day - 15 shots Special Requirements Operations/Development: Establish that 129012 can be reproduced. Diagnostics:
