The planning for Update 2009 is well on its way. UPDATE 2009 will be held on May 12th, 2009 at Le
Jardin Special Event Centre in Woodbridge. This one-day event will incorporate a Symposium, an
Exhibition, and a Job Fair.
Topics proposed for Update 2009 are expected to attract personnel mainly from Quality Assurance and
Regulatory Affairs. A list of confirmed Symposium speakers from the FDA, Health Canada, and the
USP is attached (Pg. 3).
To register for the exhibition, please complete the attached 2-page EXHIBITOR Registration Form,
and fax to 905-513-7786 or send by mail to the Pharmaceutical Sciences Group. Booth fees may be
paid either by VISA, MasterCard, AMEX or by faxing the attached form and then sending the form by
mail at a later date with a cheque attached. Exhibitor Registration Form and payment must be
received prior to Wednesday, February 25th for your company name to appear in the UPDATE
2009 brochure. If you wish to participate in Update 2009 but do not know your exact booth
requirements, please follow the procedure outlined above and inform the PSG Office of your
requirements at a later date. Please see attached Exhibitor Registration Form (Pgs. 4 & 5) for details.
ALL EXHIBITORS WILL RECEIVE AT NO COST:
- One 8’ x 10’ curtained booth, one 8’ table and 2 chairs
- Complimentary admission to the Symposium for booth personnel
(valued at $450/ea)
- One complimentary 8 ½ x 11 insert in Symposium binder (each additional
insert $250 – valued at $500) – **Exhibitor is responsible for the printing
of the insert

At Update 2009, we are offering company sponsorship and marketing opportunities to both
exhibitors and non-exhibitors. A list of available marketing and sponsorship opportunities is attached
(Pg. 6).
Company job openings may also be posted for a nominal fee at our Annual held in
conjunction with UPDATE 2009 on May 12th. Information on posting a job opportunity is attached (Pg. 7)
In response to past requests, we are opening the Exhibit Hall to the public and we encourage you to
ask your clients and potential clients to attend the FREE exhibition. Please note: this does not
provide entry to the Symposium or lunch.

Drug Standards Development Dept., USP
Current sample preparation and instrumental technology permit the quantification of a broad
range of elements at low levels with excellent precision and accuracy. Given the wide-spread
availability of this technology, USP is beginning the process of updating its heavy metals testing
to a test which is element specific and performance based.

Practices will be presented along with explanation of anticipated future changes, in consideration
of European and PIC/S requirements. Timelines for implementation will also be covered.

As governments change, so do regulatory priorities and ultimately, the kinds of challenges faced
by industry. This presentation will focus on recent important changes in the US and European
regulations, which have global implications for the development of new products.

JOB FAIR
MAY 12, 2009

As part of our annual UPDATE 2009 Symposium and Exhibition, the PSG will
be hosting a JOB FAIR on MAY 12th. We are inviting all pharmaceutical and
related companies to participate by posting open employment opportunities for a
minimal fee of $26.25/ea ($25 + $1.25 GST).
The JOB FAIR has been initiated as a service to the companies from which our
members come. The JOB FAIR is open to all PSG members and the Symposium
registrants. This year, the hours of the JOB FAIR have been extended to
7:00 pm to allow people access to the JOB FAIR after work hours.
As an added service, we will be offering on-site company JOB FAIR booths at a
cost of $750. These will be located in the same area as the job postings which
will ensure good attendee exposure to the booths. Please contact the PSG
office by April 12th if you are interested in a JOB FAIR booth.
