Loma Portal Elementary School
Loma Portal Elementary and the parents of the students participating in activities, services,
and programs funded by Title I, part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act
(ESEA) and the student body of Loma Portal Elementary, agree that this compact outlines
how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share responsibility for
improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and the
parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve California’s high
The Loma Portal Elementary School will:
1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning
environment that enables participating children to meet California state standards as
Stakeholders at Loma Portal will implement the following Mission Statement.
The Loma Portal educational community exists to inspire all students to realize and
achieve their optimal potential to be productive citizens in a global society.
Staff supports the following beliefs that a supportive and effective learning
environment consists of:
Motivational learning A safe environment
Validation of student work Tolerance
Encouraging students to take risks Valuing individuality
A variety of learning opportunities throughout the day
2. Hold parent-teacher conferences during which components of this Compact will be
discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement.
Parent-teacher conferences are held in November and in February
Additional conferences are held as needed to discuss student progress
Student Study Team conferences are scheduled to support struggling
3. Provide parents with frequent reports on their child’s progress. Teachers initiate and
maintain frequent communication with parents about both positive and negative
aspects of student performance by:
Notes/letters sent home Newsletters
Phone calls Report cards
Emails Journal notebooks
4. Provide parents with reasonable access to staff:
Teachers at Loma Portal are readily available for consultation with parents on site:
Before school and after school conferences
5. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class and to
observe classroom activities, as follows:
Loma Portal encourages visitors and volunteers in each classroom.
Following district guidelines for volunteering in individual classrooms or
programs on site.
Notifying the teacher in advance to ensure the opportunity to volunteer is
available on a particular day/time.
We, as parents, will support our child’s learning by:
Making sure that homework is completed.
Monitoring the amount of television my child watches.
Volunteering in my child’s classroom.
Participating, as appropriate, in decisions relating to my child’s education.
Promoting positive use of my child’s extracurricular time.
Staying informed about my child’s education and communicating with school by
promptly reading all notices from the school or the school district either received
by my child or by mail and responding, as appropriate.
Serving, to the extent possible, on advisory groups such as the School Site
Council, the District Advisory Council for Compensatory Education, the
Governance Team, the English Learner Advisory Committee, or other school
