CHAIRMAN’S INTRODUCTION
Moulton Additional Staff Trust (MAST) came about because of the commitment of Moulton Church family to serving those in their community. We recognised as we looked around our community various needs that as a church we wanted to address. We also realised that in order to do that we would need to employ additional staff. So we commissioned ourselves to take things forward by establishing MAST, which now funds additional staff workers to reach out into our community in new ways. One of the most pressing areas that we wanted to focus upon was that of young people. The Trustees are thankful that to date MAST has raised suffcient money to employ Paul Frost for three years from 2003-2006 as full-time Youth Minister and Chaplain to Moulton College and now Kaushal David in the same role for a further three years. In addition funds have been used to purchase a house for this worker. Further, Rachel Menon has been employed from January 2007 as the first Women’s Worker in Moulton. Anna Reppold was employed as our first Apprentice Student Worker and now Nick Trenholme is in this post. These appointments have proved to be resounding successes. A number of new community initiatives have been started, which you will see as you read through this booklet, as well as work within the church congregation. We are grateful for the tremendous support and co-operation we have had in the local community; whether it is working with the local Schools and College, with the Parish Council or just with people in and around our local area. We as Trustees would like to see this work continue and develop. I hope that you will share our vision and consider giving towards the work of the Trust. Revd Peter Breckwoldt Chairman of MAST

YOUTH MINISTER
Kaushal David is our second Youth Minister, having started in this post in September 2006. Schools There have been a number of exciting developments at Moulton Secondary School: Liberate is a weekly Christian event held during lunchtime. An informal and relaxed atmosphere enables students to talk and learn about Christianity. It has begun to create interest in year 8, with 8 or more students attending each week. The teaching element is through informal discussion, and questions and answers. In addition to this, Kaushal has led religious awareness lessons for sixth formers. Kaushal has also been active in Moulton Primary School, where he has contacts with members of staff, and has led assemblies. Moulton College With 9,000 students spread over five sites, the College has recognised there is a great need for welfare provision amongst its students. By working in collaboration with the College, MAST has helped to meet that need by establishing a Christian presence in the College. As part of the Student Welfare Team, the Youth Minister focuses primarily on supporting residential students. By arranging social activities, helping with rag week, and having an office on site, he has become a friendly face to many. Kaushal also brings a positive influence to the College in relation to race relations and religious tolerances through delivery of religious awareness and religious tolerance presentations. Community An after school initiative for 11-16 year olds called The Blue Door began in September 2005. The project has extended from one afternoon a week to two due to its popularity. Young people are given facilities to do homework, relax and socialise and take part in a range of sporting, musical and creative projects. Church Kaushal is supporting the existing young people’s work within Moulton Parish Church. He is part of the leadership team of the Moulton Youth Fellowship for 14-18 year olds, which now has in excess of 30 members, and is also involved in the Pathfinder Group (11-13 year olds).

WOMEN’S WORKER
From January 2007 MAST began to employ Rachel Menon as part-time Women’s Worker. Rachel has a desire and passion to help women to learn to love the Bible and encourage them to read it for themselves. Church Rachel’s role within Moulton Parish Church is one of support for the existing women’s work in the church and for the leaders of these groups, as well as starting a number of new initiatives, including: Women’s days away - informal meetings with experienced inspirational speakers looking at particular issues facing women. Aiming to provide a focus for fellowship and biblical teaching on relevant issues. This includes organising an annual trip to the London Women’s Convention, a national conference for Christian women. Daytime Bible study - a group for Christian women, with a crèche, to give biblical teaching and fellowship to all ages of women who are free during the daytime, or who cannot get out to other evening meetings. It also serves as a training ground to encourage other women to lead Bible studies with support and feedback. One-to-one Bible studies - the aim is to help women to be excited about God’s word as they read and study it with someone else, and then take these skills on to read one-to-one with another woman. Community Rachel is an active member of the local community, with her two children attending Moulton Primary School. She volunteers in one of the Primary School classes, helping with reading and other activities, and has also led assemblies there. Children’s summer holiday club - Rachel co-ordinates and runs, along with a team of volunteers, the children’s summer holiday club weeks. Over 90 primary school aged children attend, many of whom come from families who do not traditionally attend church. The week offers fun activities, an opportunity to learn new skills and clear Bible teaching, and culminates in a special concert at the end of the week to which the children’s families are invited. Monday group - Rachel along with a group of volunteers has started a regular evening social event for women of the community of Moulton. Called Options, the evening offers a range of different activities for women of every age. Activities vary each term, but include sport, art and craft, cookery, reading and discussion groups. At the conclusion of the evening everyone joins together to talk over a cup of coffee and hear a personal testimony from one of the women who attends.

APPRENTICE STUDENT WORKER
MAST also funds the post of an Apprentice Student Worker, a one-year post that is suitable for a college leaver or gap-year student. This position has a three-fold purpose: Practical training This post works alongside the Youth Minister, supporting the work with the students at Moulton College. The College provides accommodation and food in return for the Apprentice Student Worker acting as one of the team of College Wardens, looking after the welfare of the students. There are also practical opportunities to serve in the running of the church, through helping with administrative tasks and setting up for events. Learning This post provides the opportunity to gain formal Bible training through the Moore correspondence course, a distance learning course, supported locally by the Youth Minister, Curate and Vicar. Ministry opportunities The Apprentice Student worker will be involved in aspects of Christian ministry within the life of Moulton Church, depending on the skills of the individual employed. In the past this has included leading a Junior Church group and reading the Bible with students. Nick, our current Apprentice Student Worker assists with MYF (Moulton Youth Fellowship), the Church youth group for school years 10-13.

COMMUNITY ENDORSEMENTS
Moulton Church has shown real initiative in this project. It serves an area that does not have a high level of economic disadvantage, but where there are still some substantial problems among young people, and where outreach work such as this is very important. The success of the project is well deserved, and it is important that it continues as a service to the community. Sally Keeble, MP Northampton North. Since having started in his post in September 2006, Kaushal has been engaged in a wide range of beneficial projects and has become an indispensable part of the local community in Moulton, especially in relation to young people and the increasingly diverse range of challenges which they face. The success of Kaushal’s work has been brought about through endeavour and hard work and it is important that it should be allowed to continue. Philip Hollobone, MP for Kettering It is a privilege to have been associated with Moulton Church’s initiative to provide support for young people in Moulton. Over the last five years Paul and Kaushal have made a significant contribution to the development of young people, both within the College and wider community. Whilst the Christian ethos is clearly central to the youth minister’s work, a willingness to work with a wide range of people regardless of their religious beliefs or backgrounds has been the principal reason that the appointments to date have been so successful. More specifically, the youth minister’s influence as part of the College welfare team has been substantial, not least in promoting an understanding of religious and racial tolerance through the College’s formal tutorial process. Moulton College recognises the importance of the work carried out to date and is pleased to pledge its support to the appointment for a further 3 years. Chris Moody, Principal of Moulton College

COMMUNITY ENDORSEMENTS
Kaushal has contributed a great deal indeed, and made a significant impact as the young people’s worker within this village. Not only has he worked tirelessly and given a strong lead in youth activities, he has done it with enthusiasm, and through considerable self motivation. He has always kept the Council updated on his progress and provided inspiration to us with is forward looking visions and flow of ideas for the future. His work has been a resounding success for our community and provides a sound base for future initiatives for youth provision here in Moulton. Barry Care, Chairman of Moulton Parish Council I write in support of the work Kaushal has undertaken within the school and with the young people in the local Moulton community. This has been greatly valued by myself, my colleagues and by the young people within the school. Work with students at the school has included the following. Kaushal has run workshops within the school for our sixth form students, challenging them to explore a variety of moral and spiritual issues. He has run a weekly Christian club within school, which is greatly valued by those students who attend regularly. Currently, Kaushal is working with the School Student Council to develop an active link with a school in Africa, which we hope will lead to a number of student activities and curriculum based developments. Kaushal is also working with a colleague to help set up an embryonic Duke of Edinburgh scheme. Many of our students also make regular use of the Blue Door club in Moulton village. It would be a significant boost to secure Kaushal’s involvement with us for a further extended period. Trevor Jones, Headteacher, Moulton Secondary School Moulton Parish Church supports our school in many ways. Kaushal David has attended several visitor assembles in the past academic year developing culture within our school and building a rapport with our children. This is something we value at Moulton Primary School. Peter Sturges, Headteacher, Moulton Primary School

We are particularly grateful for the income provided by Moulton College and the Parish Council and we hope these valuable partnerships will continue into the future. However, even with this money and the money given by church members, we are still heavily reliant on the generosity of Trusts and charitable donations to continue our work. We are looking to raise additional funds not only to deal with the current annual shortfall of approximately £4,000 but also to have the potential to expand our work by employing additional workers in the future. To provide funding for three posts: full time Youth Minister (£18k), part time Women’s Worker (£3k) and full time Apprentice Student Worker (free accommodation and £5k) Money raised from MAST was used to provide the deposit for a house in Moulton. Assuming mortgage rates stay the same, the costs of the mortgage repayments will be £7.2k each year, with additional costs such as council tax and maintenance taking the total to approximately £9k. This figure is based on monthly figures of: £150 - staff workers’ expenses (telephone, internet, mileage, office equipment) and £100 - project expenses.
