Main Approaches to Teaching
The Adv Dip Programme provides students with a structured and holistic exposure to
developing and demonstrating the knowledge, skills and attitudes required as the basis of a
successful career in vocation training. While each General Studies and Educational Studies
module has lecture times, students are also provided with required and recommended
readings and, where appropriate, World Wide Web references to applicable related material.
This assists students to develop a self-directed approach to learning that will be essential if
they are to maintain the currency of their qualification during their careers, post qualification.
Academic staff will be encouraged to utilize a wide range of learning experiences
during the Programme, providing feedback and guidance to students through formative
assessments on a regular basis. Learning experiences may include (but not be limited to)

                                              2
lectures, tutorials, quizzes, group problem-solving, debates, written assignments, case studies,
written tests, analysis of real time/real world scenarios etc. Students will be encouraged to
use electronic communication both among themselves and with academic staff, to
supplement the important face to face communication opportunities provided by lectures,
tutorials and workshops.

Main Approaches to Assessment
Assessment in the Adv Dip Programme is both formative and summative. Formative
assessment is to provide a basis of feedback to students as to their progress in terms of
understanding and gaining the required level of competence. Summative assessment is to
ensure that students are demonstrating that they have attained the required level of
competence to be awarded a success grade in each module and the overall Adv Dip
programme. Summative assessment in aggregate for each module provides the information
for the grade decision. Typically programme assessment activities (whether done in groups
or individually) include written tests and examinations; case studies; presentations; written
reports on projects; one-to-one discussions with academic staff; debates; simulations; essays;
multiple choice questions and short answer questions.

                                Admission Requirements
The Adv Dip programme is suited for students who are in lack of generic skills
but preferably have undergone some vocational training of any industry.
