A Note to the Parents of Springfield Township Baseball/Softball Participants: Even though the wrestling and basketball seasons are in full swing, we must begin planning for the upcoming softball and baseball seasons. Coaches and assistants must be identified, equipment ordered, games, fields and umpires scheduled, players registered, and teams selected. Please seriously consider that when registering your child to play, he or she and you are making a commitment to attend as many practices as possible and play as many games as possible, FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON!!! This is why it is imperative that you consider your commitment as a parent, and your child’s commitment to participate for the entire season, before he or she registers. Your consideration of your child’s teammates and coaches now will lead to far fewer problems and heartaches at the season progresses. If your child plans on playing, it is also just as important to register now within the registration timeline identified by the Recreation Committee. This will allow for balanced teams and optimum coach/player ratios, and maximize practice and playing time for all participants. Please forward the “non-refundable” registration fee with your completed form to Springfield Township Recreation. Registrations received after February 20, 2009 is subject to a $10.00 late fee and the registrant is not guaranteed a place on a team and may be placed on a waiting list. The Springfield Township Recreation Committee would like to emphasize that a full softball and baseball program is offered in Springfield Township and the Northern Burlington regional area. Springfield is chartered in the Northern Burlington Babe Ruth and Cal Ripken Leagues for age groups starting at eight years old, and league games are scheduled against other charter members including Chesterfield, North Hanover, and Mansfield Townships. Our program emphasizes the instruction of the fundamentals and mechanics of the game while trying to build a program in Springfield Township and the Northern Burlington area that prepares our children for the competition that they will encounter in the future. The Springfield Township Recreation Committee encourages all Springfield Township children interested in playing softball or baseball participate in the Springfield Township and Northern Burlington programs as their primary league to play in. If your child wishes to play additional games, it is suggested you consider other organizations as secondary options. If you are trying to decide which league to play in, we would like for your child to participate in Springfield Township and the Northern Burlington Cal Ripken or Babe Ruth Leagues with their friends, classmates, and future teammates so that they can grow and learn the game together—and become good players and sports together. It is also important to note that our charter with Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth makes Springfield subject to national rules which require residents of the Northern Burlington Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken charter area to play on Northern Burlington charter league teams. Other areas (Pemberton, Florence, Hamilton and Nottingham Babe Ruth) may also offer leagues with either Babe Ruth or Cal Ripken affiliation. As residents of Springfield, if your child wishes to play in a Cal Ripken or Babe Ruth league, he or she—by national Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken rules—is supposed to play in the Northern Burlington charter area. Additionally, registering and playing in the NB Rec baseball and softball leagues qualifies those players to be eligible to try out for competitive Northern Burlington regional tournament teams that play into the summer. Pre-season weekend clinics will be scheduled to begin in February at Northern Burlington Senior High School. Those NB area residents who register their child to play in the NB area are welcome to attend. Dates and times for each age group will be communicated in the near future. Thank you for taking the time to read this note, and for considering your family commitment before registering your child to play softball and baseball. If your child wants to play, he or she is welcome and there is a place for him or her in the Springfield Township and Northern Burlington baseball/softball programs. NOT A SCHOOL SPONSORED ACTIVITY
