It’s tough enough managing employees when they are actually at work, but the State and Federal leave laws can make a full-time job out of managing employees while they are on leaves of absence. California and Federal laws provide for over a dozen different types of protected employee leaves. In order to avoid violations of the various leave laws, it is imperative that you know how to untangle the overlapping and conflicting laws and regulations. Your Employer Advisory Council of Orange County is pleased to present as its first certificate program for 2009 "Managing Leaves of Absence." Navigate the maze of California's myriad laws on employee leaves of absence. The seminar is geared to assist employers, large and small, to develop effective policies and implement a program for complying with all State and Federal statutes. The seminar will address pertinent issues such as: Breaking down the different laws Identify and interpret the full scope and relationship between Federal and State law Employer and employee obligations New changes in State and Federal leave laws What’s really important? Where to begin when an employee requests a leave How to ensure you’re compliant Leave of absence outsourcing Our Speaker: John Polson is a partner in the Irvine office of Fisher & Phillips, a nationwide employment law firm.
