As most of you are aware, on September 24, 2009 the Government of Alberta recognized our outstanding work and the quality of our instruction by officially announcing a name change to Grant MacEwan University with immediate effect. We will be celebrating their achievement at the November 9th convocation at the Winspear Centre. Many of these students have already secured employment, but some are still in the process of job searching. We wish them the best of luck in their new career. This is the first year we are offering our NEW certificate in Insurance and Risk Management. This program is designed to enable students to work half-days and go to school half-days. It is a new program that targets students who have a minimum of 30 post-secondary credits and wish to take further education that will fast track them directly into a career. The students in this program are employed by the industry half-time and their tuition is sponsored by their employer. We currently have eighteen students in this program and most of them are currently sponsored. AUGUST MIXER We held our annual mixer event on August 27, 2009. There were 101 attendees, including students, faculty and staff. This was the largest turnout we have ever had. This year’s event included a special champagne reception held before the mixer to honour our scholarship, bursary and award donors. Our graduating students attended both components. Our special thanks to the co-sponsors of the mixer event: Northern Alberta Risk and Insurance Management Society (NARIMS) and the Insurance Institute of Canada (IIC). We would also like to thank all the industry professionals for the gifts they provided for our students and their attendance at this event. Once again, it was a huge success. THANKS!
