Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) Replacement
While repairing your 12.1-inch iBook/PowerBook, Apple installed a newer version of the
Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). The new LCD provides equal functionality to the one it
replaces.

To provide optimum LCD performance for 12.1-inch iBook/PowerBook computers with
Mac OS X operating systems, you must have Mac OS X version 10.4.1 or later installed.

If your 12.1-inch iBook/PowerBook did not have Mac OS X v10.4.1 or later installed when
you sent it in for repair, Apple installed Mac OS X v10.4.6.

If Mac OS 9 was installed on your 12.1-inch iBook/PowerBook when you sent it in for
repair, the operating system was not changed.

Mac OS X Users
If you wish to reinstall Mac OS X in the future, you may do so by installing Mac OS X
v10.4.6 using the Mac OS X Install CDs enclosed with this letter. To ensure optimum LCD
performance, Apple highly recommends that you upgrade to Mac OS X v10.4.11, which
is available at no charge from Apple’s support website at
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateppc.html .

You can also run Software Update to upgrade to Mac OS X v10.4.11 automatically by
clicking on the Apple icon in the menu bar and choosing Software Update.

Mac OS 9 Users
If you wish to reinstall Mac OS 9 in the future, you may do so by installing your original
Mac OS 9 CD.
