   for “free”

Significance of the Provider Data Import (PDI)
module for a centralized data collection system

Using data to enhance quality of service delivery

     Why CAREWare? Why Denver?

Started with participation in the Client-
   Level Demonstration Project in 2000
      Established centralized data collection
      Networked CAREWare v1.1
Expanded CAREWare v3.6 “as far as we
      could”

Centralized Client-Level Data Collection –
         Not a Central Database
                                  Unduplicated

Centralized Data Collection – Not a
         Centralized Database
   Need for:
     Single, unduplicated central database
     Interaction across providers
   Problem:
     Unduplication module was phased out
Hospitals and large agencies do not
     use CAREWare
Need it within the next 10 months

                          Workshop QED-852
                                     5

           Planning for the PDI
                (Provider Data Import)

 1. Determine the Data Scope

 2. Find the Programmer

 3. Choose the File Transfer Technology

                          Workshop QED-852
                                     6

                                                           2
        1. Determine Data Scope
                  Tables for PDI:
   Provider *
   Client * (identifiers optional!)
   Annual Review
   Service
   Referral
   Diagnosis
   Medication
   Pregnancy
   Test (Labs, Screening Labs, Screenings)
 * Only the Provider and Client tables require data.
                    Workshop QED-852
                          7

         2. Find the Programmer

When deciding on whether to do this in-house,
consider the complexity of the work.
Template is an MS Access database
Pick list mapping is done centrally
   Data transformation is required
   Table relationships use distinct keys
Overall, this task involves medium complexity.

3. Choose the File Transfer Technology

    Through CAREWare:
      Flexible, comprehensive user rights
      File extensions can be restricted
      Configurable/default paths
      Security protocol
    SAFEmail
    FTP (preferably secure FTP)
Other (regular email, mailing a CD, etc.)
