•Per RCW 76.04, DNR has the authority
to take charge of and direct the work of
suppressing forest fires.
•DNR has the responsibility for wildland
fire suppression on 12.7 million acres of
state and privately owned forest land.

•The Chief of WSP has the responsibility
to mobilize jurisdictions under Chapter
38.54 RCW, State Fire Services
Mobilization.
•The State Fire Marshall is the fire
resources coordinator when fire
mobilization is authorized.

• DNR coordinates the wildland firefighting
efforts by providing:

– Conservation Commission
• Provide outreach to the Agricultural Community
• ESF 4 Support Agency Expectations:
– Department of Corrections
• Provide 10 person crews for fireline and base
camp assistance
• Provide trained enforcement officers to accompany
crews
• ESF 4 Support Agency Expectations:
– Department of Ecology
• Provide information regarding air monitoring
• Provide 24 hour response to any oil or hazardous
substance incident
Office of Financial Management
• ESF 4 Support Agency Expectations:
– Office of Financial Management
• Coordinate requests for funding mitigation
activities
• Distribute FEMA funds, if made available
• ESF 4 Support Agency Expectations:
-Dept. of Fish and Wildlife
•Provide enforcement officers for traffic control
and communications
•Access to water sources
•Provide flatbed trucks and 4-wheel drive
vehicles
• ESF 4 Support Agency Expectations:
– Emergency Management Division
• Provide after hours phone coverage
• May request EMAC assistance if needed
• Provide liaison officers to DNR ECC, if needed
• ESF 4 Support Agency Expectations:
– National Guard
• Provide fireline suppression crews and
helicopters, if available
• ESF 4 Support Agency Expectations:
-Parks and Recreation Commission
•Equipment and personnel, if
available
•Facilities to support suppression
resources
• ESF 4 Support Agency Expectations:
– Department of Transportation
• Close state highways if hazardous
conditions exist
• Provide traffic warning signs
• If the Governor declares an emergency
DNR may be able to provide:
– Overhead resources, i.e. Incident
Management Teams
– Equipment, i.e. engine with crew, generators
