** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ** Annual Snowshoe Race Entices Thrill Seekers and Outdoor Enthusiasts Pittsfield, VT ~ A quintessential New England town has discovered how to successfully merge a Herculean victory, fresh lobster, a crowd of cheering fans and music by Coldplay with the help of Pittsfield’s annual Snowshoe Race. “The day was beautiful, we had gotten a ton of snow the night before the race and there was fresh powder all over the meadow. The race started just as the sun came up, totally unbelievable. Coldplay was playing over the speaker, it felt like the rural winter Olympics without any of the fanfare.” says Courtney DeSena, event host of last years race. Riverside Farm, the popular wedding resort in Pittsfield, VT, in conjunction with Peak Adventures (www.peak.com and www.peakraces.com) is hosting its second annual Snowshoe Race March 8, 2008. Considered the most challenging race in New England, this race is not for the faint of heart. Grueling marathon, ½ marathon and 6-mile options, traversing 2000 feet to the peak of South Mountain and down again, give athletes an experience worth remembering in the gorgeous Green Mountain Valley. Post race festivities include a well-deserved lobster and jumbo shrimp feast along with presentations from the day’s event, awards ceremony and great company. Racing on snowshoes is a uniquely demanding experience both physically and mentally. This combined with a total altitude change of 4000 ft makes the Pittsfield Snowshoe Race a challenge for even the most experienced runner. Leigh Schmidt, New England's 2006 winning most ultra-runner exclaimed after his 4-hour trek last year, “That was harder than the Vermont 50!.” Race director Andy Weinberg says that participants “can expect a great day in the woods and a wild sledding ride down the mountain.” The waist deep snow, expansive woods and undeniable New England charm, provides a stunning backdrop for this exciting event. But even if running competitively doesn’t peak your appetite, and ambiance is what you’re looking for, plenty of activities are available for everyone to enjoy. Courtney DeSena, this years host of the festivities states that “It will be fun no matter what! If you have tiny kiddos, bring them in a Baby Bjorn or backpack, if your kids are older then they will have a blast just being out there and being on the course.” Venture out to Pittsfield for an extravaganza you don’t want to miss!
