testing.
TAKS-ALT Key Features
• Four essence statements per assessed subject; all
state required
• Standardized assessment tasks at three levels of
complexity developed from state selected prerequisite
skills
• Three state-developed predetermined criteria for each
assessment task

• Online automated scoring based on teacher evaluation
of the observation

TAKS-ALT Test Administrators
• NEW test administrators must completed online
training and successfully pass the qualification activity
for each Modules 1-3 with a score of 80% or better.
• Online training is required for all test administrators.
Test administrators are required to repeat any module
and qualification not successfully passed last year.
• ALL test administrators (NEW and returning) complete
Module 4, receive certificate of completion.
• Student’s teacher of record.
– Any additional support personnel must view training modules
and be under the supervision of a professional with valid
education credentials in Texas
Campus Testing Coordinator Responsibilities
1. Provide test security and general testing procedures to all
TAKS-ALT test administrators or persons involved with TAKS-
ALT testing.
2. Provide training on the TAKS-ALT Test Administrators Manual
and other testing resources as needed.
Training includes:

Test security regulations and oaths
TAKS-ALT specific training requirements
TAKS-ALT assessment window
3. Sign-up to be the CTC at the Texas Training Center for your
campus to monitor test administrator completion of online
training and qualification prior to administering assessment or
accessing TAKS-ALT online assessment system.

4. Supervise TAKS-ALT test administrators to ensure TAKS-ALT
is administered correctly.
Campus Testing Coordinator Responsibilities
5.Entering students into the system, completed by data file upload,
however:
a. Create teachers
b. Create classes
c. Assign students to classes
d. NEW students added
e. Transfer a student to a NEW teacher (if they are a transfer
to or
from another district, call the Testing Office)
f. Archive students
g. Check for duplicate students
h. Delete students
Between November 16th –January 4th (on-going maintenance until
the window for TAKS-ALT closes)
ANY Students in the “Active” folder and “Unassigned” to a class after
April 16, 2010, will be scored and reported as Not Assessed and
count in AYP calculations.

6. Ensure teachers access TAKS-ALT
online assessment system and enter
information correctly.
7. Collect and store “TAKS-ALT
Documentation Form of Student
Performance”.

• Pg. 62---second raters are required to successfully
complete all TAKS-ALT training modules, pass the
qualification activities, and sign the TAKS-ALT test
administrator security oath. Exact steps and task are
on page 62-63 of the DCCM for TAKS-ALT.
Testing Security and Confidentiality for TAKS-
ALT
• TAKS-ALT standardized assessment tasks and
resources are NOT considered secure.
• Student assessment information used or
obtained during TAKS-ALT administrations is
CONFIDENTIAL.
• Only authorized personnel may have access to
TAKS-ALT student information.
• All persons participating in TAKS-ALT must be
trained in TAKS-ALT administration procedures
and must sign a security oath before handling
confidential information.
Testing Security and Confidentiality for TAKS-
ALT
• “Test administrator” refers to anyone who
administers TAKS-ALT by determining which
standardized assessment tasks are
appropriate for a student after instruction,
conducting the observation, recording data or
observational notes, evaluating student
performance, or submitting the assessment.
• BEFORE administering the assessment the
signed oath must be turned into the campus
testing coordinator. Retention of the oaths is 5
years.
Testing Security and Confidentiality for TAKS-
ALT
• Each time test administrators access a
qualification activity, they will be presented with
an agreement and asked to confirm their
acceptance of it.
• First time log in to TAKS-ALT online
assessment system, they have to confirm they
have completed all modules and signed the
oath.
• Username and password are confidential and
MUST not be shared with ANYONE.
Test Administrator Responsibilities
• Complete Modules 1-3 (NEW or not
successful) and pass qualification activity for
each module.
• ALL complete Module 4 and receive certificate
of completion.
• Attend training on Security and Confidentiality
and specific TAKS-ALT training with your CTC.
• Sign the oath and submit it to the CTC.
• Read the Test Administrators Manual for
TAKS-ALT.
Test Administrator Responsibilities
• Correctly identify all TAKS-ALT students and
coordinate with the CTC to ensure they are in the
system.
• Choose the assessment task for each required
essence statement.
• Determine implementation of the assessment task.
• Observe and document student performance on the
predetermined criteria on the state required document.
• Evaluate student performance and enter the
information into the online instrument.
• Submit the state required document to the CTC and
the Special Education Office.
• Complete all assessment requirements between
January 4- April 16, 2010. The earlier the better, in
case additional Generalization of the Skill is needed.
2009-2010 TAKS-ALT changes
• New 4th Module- “Beyond the Basics”
• MUST use state-developed documentation forms to
records TAKS-ALT observations.
• Students enrolled in Grade 11 who meet participation
requirements for TAKS-ALT must be assessed every
year they are in Grade 11, regardless of previous year.
• True for all students, must be tested in enrolled grade,
even if it is a retention.
• Student is eligible to participate in TAKS-ALT ONLY if
the student meets ALL participation criteria, pg. 10.
• Entering student information requires ethnicity and
race separately.
