A Speculation About Effects
         Speech
          What it is…

•   The speech requires you to write
    about what might happen after a
    situation.
•   You will predict possible outcomes for
    a given situation.
          What it is…

•   The speech can be a make believe
    situation (what if it rained cats &
    dogs?), or a real-life situation (what if
    the Internet was taken away?).
        Topic Ideas…
•   A dream come true
•   An invention that could change the way we
    live & think
•   What if you could alter some aspect of
    school life?
•   What if something about human beings was
    different?
       Organization…

•   You will have an Intro, 3 body
    paragraphs, and a conclusion
•   Your thesis statement should present
    the answer to your what if question
    with 3 possible outcomes (your 3 body
    paragraphs)
    Strong Beginning…

•   Your speech should have a hook that
    really captures the listeners’ attention
     Powerful Ending…

•   Your conclusion should be punchy &
    thought-provoking.

•   Begin and end with a BANG!!
          The Task…

•   Write a 1 ½ - 3 minute speech.
•   You may use note-cards, but you will
    be docked points for reading off the
    note-cards-Try to memorize your
    speech!
     Let’s get started…

•   Make a list of at least 5 “What If”
    situations that could happen or would
    be funny if they happened
             Next…

•   You will choose one to do for your
    speech
•   Create 2 possible outcomes, which will
    become your 2 body paragraphs
             Then…

•   You will create an outline that must be
    checked by Mrs. O before you begin
    writing your rough draft
            Finally…

•   Once you have been cleared to write
    your rough draft, write out your speech
    and start memorizing it.
            The End

•   The final draft will be due, typed, the
    day that you deliver your speech to the
    class!
•   Practice, Practice, Practice!
