Term 2 Current Affairs Quiz Info Sheet for Year 1
The 2006 General Paper Action Plan calls for current affairs quizzes to be set by students. The aim is to encourage reading and generate student interest in the quiz. The Enrichment Sub-com thus seeks your assistance to collect quizzes in soft copy from your classes. **The Quiz will cover stories and news items from Term 2 week 2 – 8.** Requirement 1. We need each class to submit just one set of 30 multiple-choice quiz questions (soft-copy). The number of quizzes that each tutor submits is dependent on the number of GP classes he/she teaches. To avoid duplication of questions, each group has been assigned a specific week and their quizzes should be based on the news of that week. Please refer to the schedule below. Collection Please deposit a soft copy in folder created on the department website Star icon>upload folder> enrichment sub-comm folder> current affairs quiz. Please name the folder after yourself eg. Jasmine group 1. Assignment of weeks and Schedule Week 3 April 3-7 Week 4 April 10-14 Week 5 April 17-21 Week 6 April 24-28 Week 8 May 8-12 (5 days only) After May 12

2. **Reading Program article: From Term 2, we will be widening the scope of the quiz to include a section on a selected reading article. When setting questions, students are required to submit at least 5 questions (per GP class) from the article. The article (attached) will be uploaded on the GP website by Term 2 Week 3. Please advise your students to download & read the article as a section of the quiz will be based on it. This term’s selected article is “Are We Pushing Our Kids too Hard?” (TIME Asia, March 27, 2006)
Additional Information for JC1 & JC2 tutors & students: It will be helpful to advise your students (especially JC1s) on how to set questions and show them a sample of the kind of questions to set and expect for the quiz. The following are some examples of questions that you can show your classes. In general, students should avoid questions which require specific statistics (e.g. numbers, years) or trivial details and instead focus on issues. Examples of question format: 1. Salvation Army OPEC NATO Amnesty International Please advise students on the following technical pointers so as to minimize technical problems during the quiz: 1. Wait for the quiz to download completely. 2. Do not refresh the page at any point. 3. Do not exceed the time limit of 30 minutes or risk getting logged out and a ‘0’ mark. 4. Do not save and submit your quiz. It has to be done in one sitting.
