EXHIBITION FACT SHEET Starting Feb visitors to the Smithsonian

EXHIBITION FACT SHEET Starting Feb. 15, visitors to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History can feel the flutter™ in one of its most interactive, entertaining and educational exhibitions yet. Years in the making, Butterflies + Plants: Partners in Evolution innovatively combines traditional and experiential learning to provide visitors a rare, up-close look at how butterflies and plants have evolved and diversified together over millions of years. Exhibition Features: Designed by leading entomologists, botanists and paleontologists, Butterflies + Plants offers two distinct experiences: the Exhibition Hall and Live Butterfly Pavilion. The Exhibition Hall takes visitors on an historical journey through the coevolution of butterflies and plants – from long before dinosaurs walked the Earth to present day. An array of colorful murals, timelines, videos and photographs support the exhibition’s underlying themes of survival and evolution. The Live Butterfly Pavilion sets a new standard for museum biology halls in both content and design. Visitors can walk among more than 400 tropical butterflies and watch firsthand how these delicate creatures interact with plants and other insects. New butterflies will be introduced to the Pavilion on a weekly basis, offering visitors a wide variety of species to enjoy and discover every time they explore the exhibition. Location: Butterflies + Plants is located on the second floor of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, adjacent to the award-winning O. Orkin Insect Zoo. National Museum of Natural History (on the National Mall) 10th Street and Constitution Avenue N.W. Washington, D.C. 20560 Hours: Butterflies + Plants is open to the public every day of the year (except Dec. 25) from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. During the summer months, the exhibition will follow the museum’s extended hours of operation. Ticketing: The National Museum of Natural History charges a small entry fee for the Live Butterfly Pavilion, while access to the surrounding exhibition is free.
