Video: Changing Lives: Kenton County Public Library Foundation

Objectives:
The Kenton County Public Library Foundation conducted its first annual fund kick-off event on August 1, 2008.
This event was designed with the following goals: to highlight that the Library has a direct impact on people’s
lives; to highlight interesting programs and services that one might not equate with a library and; to bring
awareness that the Library Foundation accepts donations which will go towards enhancing these programs and
services. To do this, a video/DVD was made to bring the Library’s stories to life. Objectives included:
    1. Within four weeks of annual fund event, raise at least $2,000 from those in attendance.
    2. Within two months of production, visitors to the Foundation’s web site have viewed the video at least
         10 times.
    3. Within 6 weeks of production, use video as part of an annual appeal packet to the Library’s Foundation
         Board to encourage 100% giving participation.

Budget:
There was no budget for this project other than staff time and the cost of one blank DVD. The Library has a
staff member with a background in television production. The local Community Cable Board makes their
equipment and production studio available free to local non-profits.

Design/Quality:
A script (attached) was written which would how important the Library is in people’s lives. The focus of the
video was to highlight people and their stories about how the Library impacted them. After the script was
written, visuals were determined and interviews were done. The video was also used to highlight Library
programs and services that people might not be aware exist.

Results:
   1. By August 1, 2008 produce a 5-7 minute video to show to attendees at the annual fund kick-off event to
       encourage them to donate to the Library’s Foundation.
           a. Video was seen by more than 100 attendees
   2. Within four weeks of annual fund event, raise at least $2,000 from those in attendance.
           a. Within four weeks of the event, nearly $3,775 had been raised for the Library’s Foundation.
   3. Within two months of production, visitors to the Foundation’s web site have viewed the video at least
       10 times.
           a. As of this time, the video has been viewed 12 times.
   4. Within 6 weeks of production, use video as part of an annual appeal packet to the Library’s Foundation
       Board to encourage 100% giving participation.
           a. The mailer was sent on Friday, September 12 with the video. It is too early as of the time of this
               award entry to see results of this objective.
