President The Buffalo Criminal Law Society’s Tenth Annual Herbert J. Wechsler National Criminal
Law Moot Court Competition will be held at the Erie County Courthouse on Saturday March
28, 2009, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Here is a brief synopsis of this year’s competition:
Competition Date: Saturday, March 28, 2009. There will also be a Welcome
Meeting and Reception on Friday, March 27, 2009 at 7 pm.
Court Registration: Entry forms and registration fees must be postmarked by Friday,
November 28, 2008; registered mail, return receipt requested. LATE
REGISTRATION MAY JEOPARDIZE YOUR ELIGIBILITY.
Christine Callanan The field is limited to 24 teams. Spots will be filled based upon the order in which
Court complete registration materials are obtained.
Registration materials include the registration form AND the registration fee.
Both MUST be received before a team will be deemed registered for the competition.
Holly Erick When filing out your registration, please list a contact person with whom you will
actually maintain contact.
A confirmation will be sent to the contact person(s) named on the registration form

PLEASE DO NOT START WORK ON YOUR BRIEFS AND ORAL
ARGUMENTS UNTIL YOU HAVE RECEIVED CONFIRMATION.
All registration materials obtained after the field is full will be returned to the

Issue: Substantive criminal law; you can review the problem of the previous year on our webpage,
Format: Appellate advocacy; briefs and oral arguments; on and off brief
Problem: This year’s problem will be posted on our website on Friday, January 9, 2009, so everyone
has access at the same time regardless of location; email version will be sent shortly thereafter; hard
copies will not be mailed to the competing teams.
Briefs: Must be postmarked by Friday, February 20, 2009.

Teams: There are two members per team, with a limit of two teams per school.
Contact Info: The reply form with the names of the competitors, the coach, and the alternate must be
submitted by mail or e-mail by Friday, February 20, 2009.
Attendees: Limit of one alternate and one coach per school.
Awards: Best Oral Advocate; Best (First Place) Team; Best Brief; Best Sportsmanship.
