Water and Air Pollution
By: Mollie Bienstock, Marissa Cohen, and Danielle Durels
What’s wrong with Air Pollution?
• Air pollution is the contamination of air. • Air pollution in any form can harm humans and animal and plant life. • Air is always moving, and moving air (wind) carries pollution. This causes places without cars, factories, and people to still be polluted. • Some examples of air pollution are noise pollution, tobacco smoke, exhaust gases of vehicles, combustion of coal and acid rain.
What’s wrong with Water Pollution?
Water pollution is the
contamination of water and the problems associated with it have the capabilities to disrupt life on our planet to a great extent. Ground water along with other bodies of water can be contaminated causing tap water to become contaminated. Water pollution is a serious problem because nothing on Earth can live without water.
Causes of Air Pollution
• Factories and power plants release tons of polluting gases and particles into the air each day. • Some air pollution is caused by cigarette smoke, fire places, and forest fires. • Added weight to the car makes the car’s engine run less efficiently, causing increase in air pollution.
Causes of Water Pollution
• One main cause of water pollution is oil spills. • Small amounts of contaminants from the land add up to cause pollution in the water. • Water pollution occurs when a body of water is adversely affected due to the addition of large amounts of materials in water.
The Impact of Air Pollution
• The affects of air pollution on people’s health depends on factors such as the quantity of pollution that the person is exposed to and the duration and frequency of exposure. • Air pollution may cause low birth rate, premature births, still births, and infant deaths.
The Impact on Water Pollution
• Polluted water is unsuitable for drinking, recreation, agriculture, and industry. • Over one billion people still lack access to safe drinking water and nearly two billion lack safe sanitation due to water pollution. • If water is polluted, then it can be harmful to drink causing humans and animals to become sick.
Solutions for Air Pollution
• Humans are trying to reduce air pollution by reducing ozone producing waste materials. • The Clean Air Act was created in order to reduce the amount of air pollution. It was developed in 1990 by George W. Bush. • We can reduce air pollution by carpooling and recycling.
Solutions for Water Pollution
We can reduce water pollution by not leaving garbage in bodies of water as much as possible. Stronger laws that forbid dumping poisonous chemicals, fertilizers, detergents, and sewage in bodies of water can help to prevent water pollution.
Opposing Sides
No one opposes that pollution is harming the Earth.
Thoughts
We believe that water and air pollution is harming the Earth greatly. The people living on this Earth provide the greatest harm to the planet. We need to try our best in order to preserve the environment and our health and safety. If we do not do so, it can greatly affect our lives negatively.
