Saltz Expedition Center Internship Program: The Saltz Expedition Centers are moveable carts with interactive activities available to museum visitors. Because of the highly interactive nature of these exhibits, we rely on interns and volunteers to demonstrate and explain the activities to the public. An intern working with one of the Saltz Expedition Centers is in a position to open and expand the minds of the thousands of children who visit the museum annually. Interns using the Expedition Centers provide enrichment for our visitors on several levels: they provide visual and tactile demonstrations of abstract concepts, they encourage and answer questions, and they bring the museum's exhibits to life, kindling a child's lasting interest in science. Eligibility and Requirements Strong preference will be given to students who have taken at least two after-school courses, preferably two in one of our subject areas (Earth and Space, Ocean Life, or Dinosaurs). Students who have taken some or no after school courses may still apply. New York City high school students who are over the age of 16 and/or are in or completed, 11th, or 12th grade are eligible to apply. Applicants must go to school within the five boroughs of New York City. Summer Program Schedule There are three primary elements to the internship – training, weekly seminars, and internship hours. Training Session: Training for the summer internship program will be offered from Monday June 30th to Thursday July 3rd, 10:00AM – to 4:00 PM. **Training is MANDATORY** Seminar Schedule: Every Monday from July 7th – August 18th 10 am to 2 pm. You will not have the choice of having 3 shifts on one day, but two consecutive shifts will be allowed. A commitment of 12 hours per shift week is expected and required. Shifts can be filled on weekdays and weekends. At least one shift per week must be on weekends. An individualized shift schedule will be developed to accommodate each student’s schedule.
