Oh the election is finally over with James Abram Garfield, of the Republican party comming out on top. Our new president is from the state of Ohio. President Garfield's running mate, our new vice president, is also from the republican party, comes from the state of New York. This election was very close in regards to the popular vote, however, in the electoral college it was clear. The runners up, Winfield Scott Hancock, a democrat out of Pennsylvania and his running mate, William Hayden English a democrat out of Indiana, only lost the popular vote by 1898 votes. However in the electoral college President Garfield won by a convincing 214 electoral votes to Hancocks meager 155. This election will bring us many changes and hopefully it will be seen as a referendum on the Republicans' relaxation of Reconstruction efforts in the southern states, but the likely hood of that is slim.
