Bells ISD and Grayson County College Partner
Bells ISD is committed to increasing the number of high school graduates going
on to higher education and has partnered with Grayson County College’s
Connection Program. College Connection Program is a partnership between
the Grayson County College and local school districts to facilitate the college
admission process for all high school seniors. Students completing the program
will be guaranteed admission to Grayson County College before they graduate
from high school.
The intent behind the program is a response to the State of Texas “Closing the
Gaps” campaign to make college more accessible by increasing the awareness
of the importance of a postsecondary education for all seniors and to increase
participation in colleges and universities to 1.5 million by 2015.
Patterned after highly successful high school and community college
partnerships in Texas and elsewhere around the country, the GCC College
Connection Program will provide direct services and information on site at the
high school. GCC staff members will be available to students, high school staff
members, and parents by providing hands-on, one-on-one support to
assist the high school teachers and counselors give students the opportunity to
easily complete the college admission acceptance process.
Students engaged in the College Connection Program will complete the
following steps before graduation:
· College admissions
· Assessment testing to determine the recommended level of college courses
· Advising and counseling to plan for a successful college degree or certificate
· Assistance completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Upon completion of the steps, graduating seniors will be automatically accepted
to Grayson County College.
Bringing this unique partnership to the community is an important step toward
student success. By working together to “close the gap,” we can help improve the
quality of life in North Central Texas…one student at a time.
