Despite abundant spring rains and cool temperatures over most of the country in recent days, the
atmosphere in Italy‟s Trentino region keeps getting warmer and warmer. On Sunday May 30 the
Marcialonga Cycling race through Fiemme and Fassa valleys will take place on its 4 edition, and some “big”
entries have been sent to the OC registration office during the last 48 hours.
Swedish top skiers Jerry Ahrlin and Daniel Tynell are well-known “guests” of the Marcialonga family, as the
first won twice the famous ski marathon – in 2009 and 2007 – and finished second last January, while the
latter was third in last year‟s race, but was crowned three times at the Vasaloppet – in 2002, 2006 and 2009.
Along the spectacular routes across the alpine Lavazè, San Pellegrino and Valles passes, Ahrlin and Tynell -
who is also an mtb fan - will be challenging some Italy‟s National team XC skiers, such as the 2009 FIS
Marathon Cup overall winner Marco Cattaneo, Alex Vanzetta, Sergio Piller, Loris Frasnelli and Bruno
Among the over 1.200 registrations to 2010 Marcialonga Cycling, Germany‟s Anita Lihl, who won the 2009
World Cup Amateurs and has the lead in the 2010 rankings after 14 races, also booked her bib, along the
Marcialonga Cycling winners in 2009, namely Antonio Corradini, Alexander Zelger and Astrid Schartmueller.
The two courses for next Marcialonga Cycling event have been confirmed and both will start and finish
beside the ski jumping stadium outside the village of Predazzo. The „short‟ race (80 km total length, 1.894
meters total climb with maximum gradient 18,2%) will only cycle the Lavazé pass, while the „long‟ course
(135,4 km total length, 3.279 meters total climb – max. height 2.038 meters on Valles Pass – with maximum
gradient 19,2%) will go through the three alpine passes of Lavazè, San Pellegrino and Valles.
2010 Marcialonga Cycling is part of the new International challenge Worldloppet Cycling Races, which
includes eight cycling road and off-road events in Italy, Estonia, Czech Republic, Austria, Norway, Sweden
Along with last January‟s Marcialonga ski marathon and the Marcialonga Running scheduled on September
5th, Marcialonga Cycling forms the Combined Event „Punto3 Craft‟.
Entries to the race are open until May 29 . Further information on www.marcialonga.it
