							             Configuring a NTSC DAC-2 with Apple Final Cut Pro 3




   Button Functions
     DV Input       The DV Button, has two functions:
    Select/Reset    It selects DV as the input source and is also a reset.
                    Resetting the DAC-2 will put it into its default setting based on its Firmware
                    version.
     Composite      This button is for analog input source selection: Composite video (RCA), S-
      Video, S-     Video (Y/C), and Y.U.V. (Component)
    Video, Y.U.V.
      12/16 bit     The A Encode button has two important functions; it selects the encoding audio
    Audio/Mode      frequency between 12 bit (32 KHz) or 16 bit (48 KHz) and if it is held down for 3
      Selection     seconds it switches modes.

1. Verify which EPROM is in the DAC-2.
   On the underside of the DAC-2 there is a serial number sticker, which has a version number on it,
   the version number is stamped or on a sticker.

   Sometimes one power supply can get confused with another. The DAC-2 uses a 9 VDC
   1200mA, AC adaptor. Using the wrong power supply can cause the DAC-2 to become
   unstable or not power on.
   3. Versions 4.8/5.2 Instructions
        Mode 1 (Power Up Mode)             Windows 2000.
        Mode 2                             MACs (running OS X) or Windows XP computers.
        Mode 3                             General setting for other DV devices (Cameras, etc.)
        Mac Users: Disconnect your FireWire connection before changing modes or your Mac
                   computer will lock up.
        To change modes please do the following:
                 To go to mode 2, press and hold the encode button for 3 seconds and release. The 12
                 bit and 16 bit encode LED's will alternate as a confirmation.

                 To go to mode 3 press and hold the encode button again for 3 seconds and release.
                 The CV and S/YUV LED's will alternate as a confirmation.
        If the encode button is pressed and held again the DAC-2 will go back Mode 1”. It is confirmed
        by the 12 bit and 16 bit encode LED's staying lit for 2 seconds.

   4. Connecting the DAC-2 to your Mac
       Change modes on the DAC-2 before connecting your FireWire cable or your computer and the
       DAC-2 (The DAC-2’s input selection buttons will not change when pressed) will lock up.
              Step 1. Power on your Mac computer.
              Step 2. Turn on your DAC-2 converter.
              Step 3. Set your DAC-2 into the proper mode, if necessary.
              Step 4. Connect your DAC-2 to your computer via FireWire . (IEEE/1394 Cable)
              Step 5. Connect your Video and Audio cables.
              Step 6. Launch Final Cut Pro.
