Statement regarding Auditor General’s special audit
Edmonton... The Auditor General released a report today that includes recommendations related to AADAC contract procedures, verification of employee credentials and reporting on internal controls. The recommendations resulted from an audit of activities related to specific tobacco reduction initiatives. In addressing the findings of the Auditor General’s report, Dave Rodney, Chair of the Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission (AADAC) Board today made the following statement: “AADAC has cooperated fully with the Auditor General and we appreciate the thorough process that has contributed to this report. While the events resulting in the special audit are regrettable, they in no way diminish the excellent services that AADAC staff provide in communities throughout the province everyday. AADAC is an excellent organization that has been helping Albertans for over 50 years.” AADAC President and CEO Murray Finnerty stated, “AADAC fully accepts the recommendations of the Auditor General’s report. Steps have been taken to adjust our financial and human resource practices and we will continue to monitor and modify work in these areas.” Finnerty also said, “In the Auditor General’s report, only one former AADAC employee is identified. It is my understanding that no other employee is implicated. Nonetheless, this is a matter of great concern to us and we take it seriously.” At this time, AADAC is not in a position to comment further on the details of the specific situation noted in the Auditor General’s report. This matter has been referred to Alberta Justice and the RCMP.
