Best article: awarded jointly to the authors of the following two articles (the judges
decided to agree to disagree rather than converge on one article):
Carrie Manning, 'Party -building on the heels of war: El Salvador, Bosnia, Kosovo and
Mozambique'. From Vol 14, No. 2 (April 2007), pp. 253-272.
and

Less Contestation in Southeast Asia'. From Vol. 14, No. 5 (December 2007), pp. 773-
794.

Best article by a young scholar (agreed without difficulty):
Anita Breuer, ' Institutions of Direct Democracy and Accountability in Latin America's
Presidential Democracies'. From Vol. 14, No. 4 (August 2007), pp. 554-579.

The Frank Cass Prizes are awarded annually for articles that most enhance our
knowledge and understanding of democratization. The value of each prize is £200. One
prize is open to all contributors appearing in the relevant volume. The other prize is
awarded to a young scholar or promising new scholar. The next two prizes will be
awarded on the basis of publications appearing in Volume 14 (2007).

Nominations for consideration for the award are made by the editors. The judges are
drawn from the Editorial Board and International Advisory Panel.
