GAZI UNIVERSITY ERASMUS POLICY STATEMENT Gazi University aims at increasing the number of exchange without making a concession in quality by taking the experiences lived in student and teaching staff mobility into consideration within mobility activities by means of several bilateral agreements. Dissemination of the success of mobility in certain subject areas carried out in previous implementations to other subject areas in the institution is among the priorities of the university. Gazi University has been conducting the IP project called EWSAD (European Winter School in Architectural Design) which is one of the two IP projects from Turkey as the project promoter. In the period of LLP, the institution plans on designing multi-lateral projects in accordance with the new requirements arised in the level of Europe and implementing inter-disciplinary joint programmes within the framework of Intensive Programmes. The experiences lived in education affect positively the activities between the institution and various enterprises. Gazi University is one of the leading institutions in vocational education and training, so the institution has been realizing projects to develop cooperation between higher education and enterprises by means of placements. The institution set its sights on disseminating placement projects to other relevant areas in LLP. The university aims at encouraging the staff to design projects by considering the policies of Gazi University in the framework of TN and provide them to realize these kind of projects. EPS which has been written in consistent with the mission and vision of Gazi University and by receiving opinions of authorities studying under international relations has been approved by the university senate. After awarded EUC and/or EEUC, EUC and EPS will be given visibility by declaring them in the university main web page. The Institution will provide dissemination of new viewpoints introduced in LLP to students, teaching staff and other staff with information meetings. Within the framework of integration of disabled students and staff, the University provided disabled students and staff to use information and communication technologies with Unit of Visual Disabilities in Central Library. This is one of the few implementations in our country and the institution is going on carrying out the activities for similar groups having disabilities. In addition, integration of disabled staff and students to campus life has been provided through establishing a Unit of Counselling Services for the Disabled in Health, Culture and Sport Office. Necessary facilities for information and training of the students to comply with nondiscrimination objectives have been arranged within the executive activities. It can be given as the example of this kind of facility that approx. 1000 students from 64 different countries from different continents study in peace in the university. Gazi University prepared ECTS information package in all academic units in accordance with ECTS system and published it on the web page as the result of Bologna process. In respect of recognition the courses and credits achieved by the students in the host institution have been recognized by means of Recognition Sheet and Learning Agreement. ECTS information package has been continuously updated by taking learning outcomes into consideration and revising the degree programmes. Erasmus students chosen in accordance with stated criteria and transparency principle have been informed about Erasmus and necessary preparations for studying abroad by the help of information meetings. Therefore, information and counselling of outgoing students have been realized. The guide about all of the procedures to be done by both incoming and outgoing students is accessible from the web. Gazi University aims at increasing the number of incoming students, supporting them in the aspect of accommodation and providing Turkish language preparation with its Turkish Language Learning Centre (TOMER). Erasmus policy of the institution has been developed in accordance with the new viewpoints in the framework of Lifelong Learning Programme. According to this policy, the university aims at providing students linguistic preparation in the language of the host country. In addition, tutoring and supervision of the student while abroad is among the priorities of the institution. The university plans on increasing the number of teaching staff mobility with well-quality and well-adapted for the purpose in addition to other staff mobility extended in the new period. Gazi University is the leading institution in Leonardo da Vinci projects in Turkey. Hitherto, Gazi University aims at transferring the good experiences acquired in PL2 projects of LDV during Socrates II to Erasmus student placements in the new period. In order to ensure high quality in student placements, enterprises appropriate for the education and the level of the student have been organized. The daily details of the workprogrammes and acceptance letters from the enterprises where the placement will be held have been arranged before the placement. Past experiences show that one of the most common problems in placements is student’s inadequacy in language in the host country, so Gazi University sets it as a goal to provide students to have basic knowledge of the language in the host country in Lifelong Learning Programme. It is aimed that appropriate placement will be fulfilled by taking the information (such as CVs), their requests and their subjects areas into consideration. Learning from the previous mistakes in finding partners, the measures to build more strong and reliable contacts with the enterprises where the placement will be held are taken. The implementation on this issue is to be guaranteed by stating the monitoring and evaluation of the placement period in detailed and explicitly in Placement Contract. The University pledges the recognition of the placements in the curriculum through adaptations of new applications introduced in Lifelong Learning Programme in the way that students do not have any disadvantages.
