Client Statement: We see the need for a new multifunction mobile phone. The problem is that current mobile phones require cellular towers in order to operate. These towers are expensive for cellular service providers to build and maintain. This in turn means that cell phone users are charged large service fees. In order to drastically reduce or eliminate service fees, we see the need for a new mobile phone that is capable of communicating without the need of cellular towers. It is also necessary that the phone is capable of the following extra features: - Sending text messages - Making video calls - Making conference calls - Accessing email and internet - Has built in media player - Has organizational features that are standard on smart phones such as Blackberry’s Proposal Statement: Objectives – In order for the product to be competitive in the market place it should aim at having a trendy design. It is also important that the product strives to be durable and safe. Specific objectives of the design must include: - Different colors - Sleek design - Slim - Touch screen - Durable - Water resistant - Environmentally friendly - Good battery life User Requirements – The users of this mobile device will require that all user interfaces are easy to use. They will also require that the product is reliable, and the cost of purchasing the new mobile device is competitive with that of current smart phones. In summary the user will require: - User friendly interfaces - Customizable interfaces - An easy to use interface with computers - Competitively priced phone - Reliable software
Constraints – It is completely essential that the new mobile phone is able to fully operate without the need for cellular towers. If any infrastructure is needed for the new mobile phone to operate, it must be substantially cheaper to build and maintain than current cellular towers (in order to reduce any service fees charged to users). The new mobile device must also be compact and compatible with popular computer operating systems. It is necessary that the mobile phone is: - Compact (smaller or comparable to the size of the Blackberry or iPhone) - Capable of performing all functions without requiring the use of cellular towers - Capable of operating with the use of much cheaper infrastructure - Capable of cheaper service than regular mobile phones - Compatible with Mac and PC Function – The new mobile device should be capable of all the latest calling features (ie. video conference calling). It should also contain many entertainment, organizational and productivity features. The desired functions include: - Phone calls - Video calls - Text messaging - Conference calls - Camera and video recording - Expandable memory - Media player - Built-in GPS - Email - Internet browsing - Hands-free calling - Voice controls - Organizational and productivity features (ie. Calendar, MS Office, calculator, etc.)
