Tiffany Taylor statement for VP Internal Affairs
I have now been involved in the University Graduate Student Association for a few years.
I have found this experience to be overwhelmingly positive for many reasons. I have enjoyed
learning parliamentary procedures, working with various committees, and interacting with the
graduate students that give their time to the organization in the hopes of bettering graduate
students’ experiences at NC State. I have participated in several aspects of the organization
including my involvement in facilitating the design of a new, more user-friendly and more
accessible website and participation in the last two years with the Judicial and Legislative
committee. It is in this committee that we have strengthened the internal workings of the
organization to make us more effective and efficient as an organization.
I originally thought my time with the University Graduate Student Association was done,
however I found myself feeling unsatisfied with what I have accomplished so far. I wanted to do
more in terms of increasing awareness of the organization among graduate students and creating
greater solidarity among graduate students. It is these main goals that have led to my running for
this position and I think much of this work can be done through bettering internal processes of the
UGSA. We can have a stronger presence in the University and in the last few years I have been
excited to be involved in getting this process going, but we have more to do. Certainly my being
involved in the UGSA does not illustrate my qualifications and change can certainly be very
positive for any organization. I have always wanted to be accountable for any decisions I have
made or actions I have taken, as well as acknowledging I have room to improve how I perform in
a particular role. So my hope, if elected, next year is to be better at my job, to be accountable, and
to improve the University Graduate Student Association in a number of ways. This includes
greater involvement on my part with each committee. I hope to have that opportunity next year
and look forward to serve again.
