    One Z.P.E.T.E. (Zetas Promoting Excellence Through Education)
Scholarship will be given to a qualifying African-American who is a single parent continuing
his or her degree at an accredited college or university. The Scholarship is part of the sorority’s
efforts to encourage single parents to engage in higher education pursuits.
                                                 AND

The Pamela D. Hart “Young Writers Scholarship” will be given to a qualifying African-
American high school senior who demonstrates leadership skills and a love for journalism,
communication, public speaking, and literary excellence. Selection is also based on the students’
excellence in community service, academic ability, and pursuit of personal goals – including career
aspirations. Students must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA out of a 5.0 scale, or equivalent.

Requirements for both scholarships are divided into three steps: 1) Application, 2) Essay, and 3)
Interview. The students’ performance in all three steps will determine scholarship recipients.

Interviews:                     Mon., April 12, 6-9 p.m. (Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church)
Recognition:                    MAPS luncheon, Sat., June 12 (Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church)
Proof of Registration:          Midnight on Sunday, August 29, 2010 (Fall Semester). Contact
                                Zeta if you plan to enter college in the Spring instead.

Essay Theme: “Accepting the Challenges and Turning Them into Opportunities.”

Essay Topic: It will take an educated and talented workforce to deal with the challenges our
nation faces. Name one of those challenges and tell how your educational pursuit(s) will impact
the scenario to contribute toward a solution.

Rationale: This endeavor encourages applicants to think critically about their education as it
relates to current and future events. It also allows them to see themselves as people with potential
solutions to crises in their communities and in our nation.

Note: Winners must also be present at the Mentoring and Providing Scholarships (MAPS)
luncheon on Saturday, June 12, 2010 – where community groups will recognize all scholarship
recipients.

Scholarship Qualifications and Information for the Z.P.E.T.E Scholarship:
    Eligibility is limited to an African-American single parent currently pursuing a degree from an
       accredited college or university who excels in academics, community service, and career
       aspirations. The student must have at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) out of a 5.0 scale,
       or equivalent.
    To qualify, your completed application and all required documents must be received no later than
       Thursday, April 1, 2010, including a copy of your most recent college transcript and two letters of
       recommendation.
    The scholarship requires a 3-step process: Application, essay submission, and an interview with
       the Scholarship Committee. Please submit two letters of recommendation from a friend or
       school official. All applicants who wish to be considered MUST COMPLETE ALL 3 STEPS
       successfully. The scholarship committee will select the winner from qualified applicants. The
       winner should also be present at the Mentoring and Providing Scholarships (MAPS) Scholarship
       luncheon, Saturday, June 12. Applicants not selected will be notified by mail.
    Again, applicants will be judged on academic achievement, community service, and career
       aspirations. The applicant will also be judged on his/her interview and response to the
       scholarship question indicated on the application.
    The scholarship will be awarded during your next semester of college once confirmation of
       registration is received by Midnight on Sunday, August 29, 2010 (Fall Semester). If you do not
       plan to enter college until the Spring Semester, please notify Zeta Phi Beta.

    Eligibility is limited to African-American high school seniors who demonstrate leadership skills
       and a love for journalism, communication, public speaking, and literary excellence. Selection
       will also be based on the students’ excellence in community service, academic ability, and
       pursuit of personal goals – including career aspirations. Students must have a minimum of a
       3.0 GPA out of a 5.0 scale, or equivalent.
    To qualify, your completed application and all required documents must be postmarked no later
       than Thursday, April 1, 2010, including a copy of your most recent high school transcript and two
       letters of recommendation from such individuals as mentors, friends and school officials.
    Scholarship winners will participate in a 3-step process: Application (including submission of
       transcript & two letters of recommendation), essay, and an interview with the Scholarship
       Committee. Interviews will be held Monday, April 12, 2010, from 6-9 p.m. at the Mt. Pisgah
       Baptist Church, in Bloomington.
    The scholarship will be awarded during your next semester of college once confirmation of
       registration is received (postmarked) by Midnight on Sunday, August 29, 2010 (Fall Semester).
    The winners must also be present at the Mentoring and Providing Scholarships (MAPS)
       luncheon on Saturday, June 12, 2010 – where community groups will recognize all scholarship
       recipients. This date will be forthcoming.
