Who is Easter Seals UCP?
• “As statewide nonprofit, Easter Seals UCP serves a broad range of people with disabilities, such as people with cerebral palsy, autism, spina bifida, mental retardation, muscular dystrophy, stroke, spinal cord injuries, head injuries, hearing and visual impairments, and mental health diagnoses. ” • Services – child development centers, – therapy, – community inclusion services, – residential living, – supported employment, – in-home and community-based supports, – respite care, – disability benefits counseling, – information and referral, – and advocacy.

Mission
“Easter Seals UCP North Carolina creates opportunities, promotes individual choice and changes the lives of children and adults with disabilities by maximizing their individual potential for living, learning and working in their communities.” • Providing the highest quality medical, rehabilitation and support centers” •Attracting and recruiting volunteers and staff who are enthusiastic, dedicated and passionate about the Easter Seals UCP mission •Utilizing our volunteer, staff and financial resources in the most efficient way •Building innovative partnerships for effective advocacy and service delivery •Creating environments that promote inclusion.

History
• UCP
– First Christian church Oleander Dr – 1 class all special needs children

• 1991 moved to Military cut off
– 3 classes
• 6 children • 1 developmentally normal child/ class

– 1 Physical therapist – 1 speech therapist – Land donated by Mabel Dukes

• January 1st 2004 UCP and Easter Seals merged

Present
• 5 classes
– Infant to 5 years old – Goal of 50/50 developmentally normal to disabled children

– Assist with walker – Encourage wheelchair use – Help children with low or stiff muscle tone ride a bicycle
