States of Matter By Vicky Walkup Objective 3.01 Determine three states of matter. Second Grade Essential Question: What are the three states of matter? Matter is what all things are made of. The three forms of matter are solids, liquids, and gases. A property is a quality of something. Color, size, and shape are properties of matter. Two other properties of matter are that it takes up space and that it has mass. Mass is the amount of matter an object has. A solid takes up space and has mass. It is the only form of matter that has a shape of its own.
