GENERAL NOTES: NOAA Ship Rainer is equipped with six gravity davits which hold six aluminum survey launches. Each launch is 29 feet long and
is powered by a diesel engine. Nine crew members deploy and retrieve a launch. From the ship, there is one overseer/director (Boatswain Group
Leader); one stern line handler, one bow line handler, two frapping line handlers, and one gravity davit operator. From the launch, two people
handle the bow and stern line, as well as the bow and stern hoot/U-bolt assemblies, and one coxswain driv es the launch. In addition, commissioned
officers coordinate to maneuver the ship to create a lee for deployment and recovery operations.
