Develop a method for making sure you systematically replace these items whenever they run out. We have a post-it note pad for this specific purpose on one of our shelves in the kitchen, which we check when we are making our list for the weekly shopping trip.

Herb garden
If you have space outside, start an herb garden in raised pots. Easiest herbs to grow are sage, rosemary, thyme, and oregano - once you get them started they will last for years. You can grow parsley, cilantro and basil as well but you'll need to replant a few times a year when they go to seed. Dwarf citrus trees are also really beneficial and can be grown in pots.
