Dear First Name:

It’s that time of year again. The air is crisp. The sun sets early. The fall semester is in full
swing on the Earlham campus, filled with bustling students from all walks of life. Every
year, as we begin anew, I am reminded of the important role that you and I play in the life
of Earlham College. We are certainly privileged to have the opportunity to participate as
trustees of this outstanding institution.

Earlham has looked to us many times in the past months and years for our support and
expertise. It has asked us to step forward to help recruit students or faculty, build a new
building, and offer advice and knowledge to guide and shape its unique mission and
Community. We have risen to each of these occasions, and as a result, should have both a
pride in our accomplishments and a profound stake in Earlham’s future.

Earlham will continue to solicit your help as we move toward the next step. As a member of
the Board of Trustees, we set an example not only by our volunteer service, but also by
making annual leadership gifts to the College. The Earlham Fund supports the ongoing,
unforeseen needs of the College. Each year this money is used to fortify the programs of
central importance to Earlham’s mission of teaching and global community building.

Last year, The Earlham Fund raised more than $1.3 million. An additional $25 million in
new endowment funds would be needed to generate annual income equal to that amount.
As you can see, annual giving plays a vital role in the success of the institution. While large
contributions to capital projects and endowment provide for the Earlham the future, our
annual gifts sustain the Earlham of today.

Over the coming weeks, leading up to the fall trustee meeting in October, I or someone
from the Institutional Advancement Committee will contact you about your annual gift to
Earlham College, Earlham School of Religion and Conner Prairie Museum for this new fiscal
year. Please do not hesitate to contact me or Jim McKey, vice president for Institutional
Advancement Office, if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you for all that you do for Earlham College. Your generosity and loyalty are
important and deeply appreciated.
