The University
• Established in 1968 USP is a regional university owned and operated by 12 Pacific Island Countries • Have a roll of approximately 20,000 students
Mission
• The object of the University shall be the maintenance,advancement and dissemination of know and research and otherwise knowledge by teaching, consultancy and research and otherwise, and the provision at appropriate levels of education and training responsive to the well being to the needs and needs of the communities of the South Pacific
Planning Strategy
• USP Strategic Plan provides a general guide for the University further development. It sets out the goal and strategies of the University for mid and long terms. • The Strategic Plan is a rolling plan: the University will revise it every three years, in the middle of the trienium

Future Directions for USP
• In December 1983, a conference on the future direction of USP was held • This sets the scene for the Mater Plan for USP
Student Life
• Focus on students academic life and accomadation are two important points.
Site, location and natural features
• The USP site has a total of 72.8 hectares. Upper campus comprises of 68.4 hectares, middle campus of 1.1 hectares and the lower campus of 3.3 hectares • The sloping ground is varied. Much of the land is steeper than 1 in 5 along the gullies and rises to 1 in 2.5. Buildable land at 1 in 10 or below is scattered. The most usable land at less than 1 in 20 occurs only at the end of ridges, virtually all flat land land is flood prone.
History of Master Planning
• Laucala campus has a beautiful natural site, highly specific in its topography, vegetation, climate and outlook. These attributes are prescious. • The Master Plan zone the site into 7 zones; Zone is the academic core, zone is the southern half of the site,zone 3 the southern student residential area, zone is the central steep bush,zone 5 is the northern student residential area, zone 6 staff houses zone 7 is low lying land to the east

• This focus attention to the academic core at zone 1. This include the library, student amenities and the three schools • It should provide buildings with greatest degree of flexibility and adaptability, general purpose building. • The three school building are remarkably similar. At ground level they have wide walkway, middle floor have also wide walkway with classroom and tutorial room and staff housed on the top floor
