COSTA MESA HIGH/MIDDLE SCHOOL 2007-2008 WASC/CDE FOCUS ON LEARNING ACTION PLAN # 1 STUDENT SUPPORT Objective: Using student performance data, students will be appropriately placed in rigorous courses to ensure graduation from high school and prepare for post-secondary options. Rationale: Accurate student placement, course offerings, and professional development, based on student performance data, require the school to initiate programs reflective of student needs. ESLRs Addressed: Confident Communicators and Problem Solvers Annual Goals: a) meet or exceed our API target b) at least 10% increase in the number of students proficient and above on the state standardized tests c) at least a 10% increase in the number of students taking higher level course offerings d) establish additional student support programs e) increase of course offerings Identification of Task 1. 1. Curriculum growth: Activities to Accomplish Task 1a. Adjust master schedule to absorb 10% increase in the number of students enrolling in AP courses. 1b. Create a structure of data analysis to guide student placement. 1c. Collaborate across curricular departments to reinforce written conventions and writing strategies. 1d. Implement a variety of instructional strategies that support the learning experiences for teachers and students. 1e. Adjust the master schedule to absorb a 10% increase in the number of students enrolling in higher levels of math. 1f. Special needs students will increase achievement in all core subject areas. Activities to Accomplish Task 2a. Schedule students with two or more years below grade level in reading and written language to participate in the Reach Tier III Intervention Program or Corrective Reading (CR). 2b. Provide support for Special Education students participating in support programs with modified/parallel curriculum, audio books, and modified reading materials as per state standards and IEP goals. 2c. Monitor student progress through core-curricular benchmarks, pre/post assessments, mastery tests, Woodcock-Johnson Revised III, CST and CAHSEE results. 2d.
