Announcement of IASLC/CRFA Prevention/Translational Research Fellowships
The IASLC is proud to announce a continuation and expansion of the IASLC Fellowship Programs For 2005 six new- 2 year fellowships IASLC/CRFA Prevention/Translational Research Fellowship Awards are available, three of the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation supported by Bristol-Myers Squibb and Eli Lilly. Three IASLC Lung Cancer Fellowships are supported by Aventis, Pfizer, OSI and AstraZeneca. Application are requested for these Fellowships to be awarded in 2005. The goal is to reward scientific excellence and to encourage innovative investigations in the field of lung cancer prevention research and translational research with a potential impact on the management. The applications will be evaluated by a Scientific Review Panel; deadline for submission is January 31, 2005 with decision by March. Application forms can be found at the website: www.iaslc.org

– A hallmark of the AACR is the promotion and support of the highest quality cancer research. The AACR offers a number of research grants for cancer researchers at various stages in their careers to foster the development of the most promising scientists. Since 1993, the AACR has provided $4.6 million in funding to 88 investigators.
Travel Grants and Scholar Awards
– To enhance the education and training of investigators, the AACR offers a variety of Scholar Awards and travel grants that provide financial support for attendance at AACR Annual Meetings, Special Conferences, and other scientific meetings sponsored by the AACR worldwide. Since the first travel grant was offered in 1986, the AACR has provided over 3,000 awards.

Final Thoughts on Enjoying a Research Career
It
is not a job, but rather an adventure! Be patient upon arriving (lab/rad/animal orientation course, etc take forever) Good research projects are often nail bitters If after a reasonable time for adaptation things are not working; out be proactive in ensuring you time investment is justified
