SDLC Methodology V-Model SDLC: Is acronym of software Development life Cycle. Consists of 6-phase (The no of phases differs from company to company) they are. 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) Requirement and Analysis. Design. Development/Coding. Testing. Implementation Maintenance. Phase No Phase Name Description 1 Requirements/ Analysis 2 Design The main objective of this phase is to produce a document that specifies all the customer requirements. The main objective of this phase is to Design the front end(Screen, Dataflow, Control Flow) and back end(Coding) of an application or the system or a product. In this Phase the Source code of the application is developed. Primary O/P Documents 1) SRS 2) SRAS 3) FS Entry or I/P criteria 1) BRS 2) BRD Exit or O/p Criteria All the requirement documents are reviewed and authorized. 1) HLD 2) LLD 3 Development HLD: 1) SRS/FS 2)SRAS are reviewed and authorized. LLD:1) HLD documents are reviewed and Authorized Design Documents 1)HLD. 2)LLD. High level &Low Design Documents are reviewed and Authorized. The O/P of this phase is subjected to testing Validation R DEEPTHI REDDY Page 1 18/04/2008 SDLC Methodology V-Model 4 Testing It is process of executing and using the software/ application. Different types of testing. 1) Unit Testing 2) Integration Testing 3) System Testing. 4) User Acceptance. Unit Testing: 1) LLD (After Completing the coding part of the application) Integration Test: 1)HLD + LLD=CDD (After integrating 2 or more modules.) System Testing: 1) SRS & FS (After integrating all modules Unit Testing:After testing the coding of all modules individually. Integration Test: 1) If the link between modules are proper. UAT: 1) BRS/ BRD System Testing:1)After testing the whole product.(If the product meets the customer requirement. UAT: 1) Testing the product with real set of data. (If it meets the all the business Customer Signs off the acceptance letter. 5 Implementation It is the process of installing the product/ application. 1) ST completed 2) SIT completed. 3) UAT Completed 6 Maintenance Giving support to the product/ application/ Software developed. Feed back from the customers/ Users. Satisfying the customer with support. R DEEPTHI REDDY Page 2 18/04/2008 SDLC Methodology V-Model V-Model Introduction: The V-model was originally developed from the waterfall software process model.  The V-model is one of the SDLC methodologies, in this methodology Development, Design and Testing take place at the same time (parallel).  The V-model is also known as Verification and Validation Model. Diagrammatical View: - Figure 1.1 Note: - In the Figure 1.1 The marking of direction in V-model is the most important. Because it shows the process of V-model. Looking in to the Figure 1.1 We come across two very important words.  Verification.  Validation. Verification: - It is process of checking or examining the Documents. It is Static testing. Validation : - It is the process of verifying or checking the product. It is Dynamic Testing. R DEEPTHI REDDY Page 3 18/04/2008 SDLC Methodology V-Model And hence this model is known as Verification and Validation Model. Process Involved in V-model. : Note: - The process is simultaneous. Stage 1: Verification: 1a) The QA team (Business Analyst) collects the requirement from the customers and this requirement is documented in the form of BRD. Validation: 1b) UAT Tester will use the BRD document and start writing test cases. Stage 2: Verification: 2a) The BRD is analyzed and then Documented as SRS (Software requirement specification and further to FS (Functional Specification). Validation: 2b) ST Tester will use the SRS & FS document and start writing test cases. Stage 3: Verification: 3a) With the help of CDD the front end (screens, data flow, control flow) of the application is designed. Validation: 3b) Integration Tester will use the CDD document and start-testing link between the modules. Stage 4: Verification: 4a) The with the help of LLD the back end of the application is designed. Validation: 4b) The Unit Tester will Use the LLD and start testing the single module. Note: - For every phase of testing we have different testers namely. Black Box Testers: - UAT &ST. White Box Testers: - Integration Testers & Unit testers. R DEEPTHI REDDY Page 4 18/04/2008
