More staff and Departmental Highlights…
On November 8, the BGSU Student Money Management Services program, in conjunction with the College of Business Administration and the College of Education Human Development, sponsored a one-day drive-in conference entitled "Smart Money: Helping High School Students Understand Personal Finance.” BGSU is proud to be the first state university to offer a conference of this nature. Statewide high school curriculum mandates will be changing to include personal finance and money management for high school students. This curriculum will be required in every high school in Ohio beginning fall of 2010. A variety of speakers participated including Richard Cordray, Treasurer of the State of Ohio. Many creative ideas and teaching resources were provided by our speakers. Approximately 170 teachers attended. Feedback on evaluations was very positive. This event would not have been possible without the assistance and hard work of the outstanding planning team: Dr. Duane Whitmire, Director, BGSU Student Money Management Services; D.J. Kern-Blystone, faculty member, College of Education and Human Development; Dr. Fionna McKinnon, Assciate Dean, College of Education and Human Development; Gary Swegan, Asst. Vice Provost and Director of Admissions; Deborah Wooldridge, Director of Family and Consumer Sciences; Kathleen Rarey, Communications Manager in Marketing and Communications; Marilyn Pender, Graduate Assistant in Student Money Management Services; Brent Nicholson, Associate Dean in the College of Business Administration; and Jill Carr, Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students, as well as support from additional faculty, staff and students. Conference coordination was provided by Janet Womack, Continuing Education. We hope this will become an annual event that will bring educators to our campus to learn more about this important topic that impacts students at all levels.
