University of Wisconsin Global Health Interest Group Interdisciplinary Student Contributions to Global Health Hannah Kirking, Med 2 February 16, 2007 Outline    University of Wisconsin History of “GHIG” (Global Health Interest Group) Events     Speakers Symposium Trips Potlucks    Cooperation—Synergy Challenges/benefits with being interdisciplinary Questions University of Wisconsin Health Sciences Campus History of “GHIG”    2003: Organization started by a medical student and physician/faculty advisor to help other medical students learn more about global health issues 2005: Inauguration of UW Interdisciplinary Center for Global Health 2007: GHIG presently consists of students from various health professional programs: medicine, physician assistant, pharmacy, nursing, public health, veterinary and environmental health students Events and Activities       Noon global health-themed talks Evening panels and presentations Co-sponsor annual Global Health Symposium Summer/spring break trips Networking opportunities Conferences Noon/Evening Talks      Annual fall series: Summer global health experiences (student presentations) Various international health organizations: (WHO, MSF, CDC, etc.) Faculty and staff talks on various global health topics Renowned speakers: Linnea Smith, Joia Mukherjee And many others… Annual Global Health Symposium Summer Group Trips Uganda, Ecuador, Thailand, Guatemala Spring Break Trips Belize, Mexico, Navajo Nation Individual Global Health Experiences  Last summer our members did learning, service and research in the following countries: Argentina, Ecuador, Honduras, Guatemala, Uganda, Nigeria, Zambia, Sri Lanka, China, India, Great Britain, Ukraine ????????? UW Global Health Student Alliance ?????????
