Installing Mozilla Firefox on Mac OS X
NOTE: The current version at the time of this draft is 2.0 which requires OS X version 10.2.8 or newer. To check your version of OS X, click on the Apple menu in the upper-left corner of the screen and select About This Mac. The version will be displayed in the window that opens. ⇒
Installing Firefox
1. Go to http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/ and click on the Download Firefox link. DO NOT use Internet Explorer since it does not download the file properly. Use Netscape or Safari. a. If the downloaded file doesn’t open automatically, go to the download location and double click the Firefox 2.0.0.x.dmg file to open it. b. A license agreement will appear. Click Accept. 2. Copy Firefox to the Applications folder. a. Open the Firefox volume on the desktop if not already open. ⇒ b. Drag the Firefox application from the volume to the Applications folder (Macintosh HD/Applications.)

Configuring Firefox
1. Open the Firefox application. If you had a previous version of Firefox installed you do not need to configure settings or import bookmarks, as these will have been preserved. 2. If you are installing Firefox for the first time, an Import Wizard should appear. In the Import Wizard select the browser that you’ve been using the most recently and click Continue.
3. Next you’ll be asked if you want to use a Google-powered Firefox search page as your home page or import the homepage from your other browser. If you want to keep your previous homepage select the Import option and click on Continue.
4. A message will appear indicating that settings were successfully imported. This window should close by itself and Firefox will restart displaying a page indicating that the latest version of Firefox is installed.

Recommended Settings
1. Go to the Firefox menu and select Preferences. 2. Under Content, click on Exceptions next to Block pop-up windows. In the line for Address of web site, enter hamilton.edu and click Allow. It should drop into the list below. Click on the small red circle in the upper-left corner to close this window.
3. Under Security uncheck the option to Remember passwords for sites.
4. Go back to Main and click on the small red circle in the upper-left corner to close this window and save the preferences. 5. Go to the View menu, then to Toolbars and then Customize.

6. You can add icons for some features you would like to have in your toolbar by dragging them from the Customize Toolbar window into the toolbar. For example, in the following figure the Bookmarks, Print, and New Tab icons were added. Click on Done once you’ve added the icons you want.
