Margins Tab: Alter the usable area of a document. Decrease the margins to fit more
content on a page. Most laser and inkjet printers will easily handle .5” margins on
any side.

    Layout Tab > Headers and Footers

Choose to add a unique title page Header and Footer to a section, as well you can
create unique odd and even page Headers and Footers for each section as well.

By default Word documents have one section to start.

    View > Headers and Footers
accessing Headers and Footers allows one to add elements to a document that will appear at the top and
bottom of every page of that section. a typical Footer is a Page number.

When one accesses the Headers and Footers a Toolbar appears to assist with the headers and footers.

Styles
aPPlyIng STyleS
styles allow for greater ease in applying multiple formatting
changes at once, as well as a system to quickly update all
instances of the applied style simultaneously.
For example, once a style is applied to Headings, any
changes made to the Headings style will automatically
update all Headings throughout the document.
styles are also required by the automatic Table of Contents
Feature
     Format > Styles and Formatting…
Opens the styles and Formatting Task Pane
The     icon also opens the styles and Formatting Task
Pane and can be found at the far left of the Formatting
Toolbar.

Apply:
1)      select the text to have a style applied to it

2)      Click on the desired style to assign it


Edit:
Once
styles are
applied they
are easily
updatable
Clicking on the arrow that appears on the right when the
cursor is over the style or right Clicking anywhere on the
style in the Task Pane opens a dropdown menu.

Mail Merge
easily add data from an external source to populate a Form letter
or address labels. Word and Outlook work seamlessly to produce
Mailing labels or envelopes using contacts from Outlook. a step by
step Wizard makes it a snap.


uSIng THe MaIl MeRge WIzaRD

1: Select Document Type
Choose letter, envelope, or label for the type of document you wish to
create.


2: Select Starting Document
Choose to start with a blank document, a template or the current document.


3: Select Recipients
Choose the source of the data: an existing list, from Outlook or type in a brand new list


4: Write the Letter / Arrange Labels
add the Merged Fields and Text to the document
after the Fields have been added to the document, be sure to add spaces between them, and format them like regular text.




                                                                                            5: Preview the Labels
                                                                                            Cycle through the labels to view the
                                                                                            results before committing them. at
                                                                                            this point you can still choose to go
                                                                                            back to the previous step and change
                                                                                            formatting or the fields.




    6: Complete the Merge
    It’s a good Idea to choose the ‘edit Individual labels’ option so you
    can save, alter and easily access the current merged list again. By
    Printing directly you never get a chance to save the document for
    future use.

 versions
 WORKIng WITH DOCuMenT veRSIOnS
     File > Versions
 Versions allow you to save multiple versions of a document within the same document. Instead of using save as…
 and having multiple files, each version is saved within the one document. This makes finding and accessing older
 versions easy.




Footnotes & endnotes

Table of Contents
   Insert > Reference > Index and Tables… > Table of Contents
Word is capable of taking Heading styles and summarizing them with page numbers and hyperlinks
to build a Table of Contents.


The Table of Contents is quickly
updatable if changes in the
document order are made by
right Clicking on the Table and
Choosing ‘update Field’

                                                             to access the Formatting of
                                                             the various levels of the Table

Various aspects of Word can be altered in the Options Menu
spelling and Grammar Options: Turn on/off the automatic spell
Checker or the Grammar Checker. alter settings for how the
spelling and Grammar system works.




TuRnIng OFF auTO-annOy
    Tools > Auto Correct Options…
Certain automatic features in Word are great for
certain circumstances, but just outright aggravating
in others.

                                                           autoFormat as you Type: Toggle features like
                                                           automatically replacing “straight quotes” with “smart
                                                           quotes” or the automatic numbered lists and Bulleted
autoCorrect: Features like Capitalizing first letters of   lists, and the auto replacement of double hyphens --
sentences, dOuble Capitals at the beginning of words,      with a dash –
capitalizing days, etc. as well as the replace as you
type feature, where common typos are programmed to
auto correct. i.e. ‘teh’ becomes ‘the’
